Football and basketball players are going to be deemed employees. The schools (i.e., NCAA) has botched this all terribly. 5 years ago they could have come out with the Project D-1 plan that Baker announced but it’s too late now.
There’s no way that GT goes 11-1 and misses a 12 team playoff with 7 at large spots. With that record we either won the conference (automatic bid) or we beat UGA (top 10 win).
I just can’t see that being reality. If it is, then I wonder if ESPN is secretly hoping to destabilize the ACC to cut its obligations to the ACC sooner rather than later.
They don’t have a leg to stand on. I can’t see any federal court (in North Carolina especially) siding with them. It seems they are just hoping to get the 572 million number reduced to 60% like Maryland did.
That’s a lot of transfers the last few days. I wonder did we jump the gun celebrating the lack of transfers. Here’s hoping the staff can bring in better players who can contribute for several years.
I see where you are going but it’s just not a realistic scenario. The NFL has rules and agreements in place between the players union and its owners to limit/prohibit a lot of these scenarios you’ve mentioned along with a commissioner to enforce all agreements. College football doesn’t have any...
The school and education piece is out at most of the P5. GT is one of the last schools actually trying to educate their “student” athletes whereas other said forget it years ago. The Athletic had a great article about a massive portion of the FBS P5 players being in non-rigorous majors (i.e...
It’s time. Either we decide to continue competing or we essentially drop down. I tend to think an option that’s divorced from academics for the revenue generating sports might be the best of both worlds for a school like GT.
Both the Athletic and Yahoo Sports had extensive articles on it. The billionaires actually committed to fund the difference for the lack of TV revenue for the next 7 years.
I tend to think if the athletes stop having to go to class GT might be a beneficiary. Our academic requirements and limited offering are more of a hindrance. Our location should be a net positive in that world.
No need to bash Kyle or Kenan. As others have alluded to in prior posts, some of these are likely grad transfers leaving because either GT didn’t admit them into grad school or they didn’t like the grad program offering available at GT. It sucks but it’s probably better they leave now since the...
