Having the engineering school helps UGA in recruiting battles with other schools (e.g., Texas A&M and Bama). For example, having it actually helped them land Nakobe Dean (5 star) who wanted to major in engineering. You are right it doesn’t often come into play.

Access to talent kills the BIG schools outside of OSU and to some extent Michigan and Penn St. It’s hard to grow up in Georgia, Florida, Texas, and California and want to move to the Midwest for sports without being very well compensated.
