They both are Batt’s first major hires coming of their seasons. So they are connected in that way, and the route we chose to go with each coach was vastly different.
I’m willing to agree we need to wait and see as Root said. Part of the issue is Key was a promote from within guy. So to some...
Just hire a guy who’s been a coach before and won at a decent clip not just had one random ok year aka TFG.
Tech has enough issues as it is. So do the easy thing. Get a guy who’s won at another place before with some coaching pedigree. GT ain’t Clemson and in many ways the Dabo hire was luck...
Stop hiring guys that “fit the mold” or are “GT Men” or connected to the program somehow.
Spend some real cash and go out and get the best coach we can out there who’s a proven winner.
I don’t know how tech feasibly fits into the landscape like this. Hell I don’t know how factories can keep doing that year over year. UGA paying 5k just to lose a kid to Bama. Ohio State paying kids 5k to get them on campus because if not Michigan will.
This all just seems bonkers, and I’m...
It’ll start to even out as this is the last year of the Covid years I think. Had a log jam so to speak of guys who wanted to play because the Covid hardship gave everyone an extra year of eligibility.
I like Pyro, but we need to upgrade at all positions across the board if we want to get back to winning records and bowl games. The fact that we found someone from another big school to help us is a win. I also hope Pyro continues to compete to keep the fire under King.
Latest update seems to portray it’s all I need is a miracle time. Not one to speculate, but they are bringing in the rest of the family now to make some decisions per the University.
As a family man with some of my kids in the HS and college age other schools around these parts do it better cause I’ve experienced in terms of welcoming people into the fold beyond just the student body and the graduates.
Only other schools around here in the same snobbish territory could be...
FYI the whole couldn’t make it in academically thing is vastly overstated these days given what you need to get into UGA now do to a crap ton of different factors.
Gone are the days of if you got a 3 point with an 1150 GT won’t take you, but you can slide into UGA just fine.
There is also a 3rd part of the fanbase that IMO gets overlooked to a degree. You got the people that went here, and you got the sidewalk fans. The other area you can push into though if you can attract the Family of kids going here.
Maybe Jay Smith isn’t a GT fan, but his daughter Jade Smith...
I mean not always per se. Look at the Dawgs. Fields couldn’t sniff the field so to speak. He transferred to Ohio State and the rest is history.
U Dubs QB was a transfer. Everyone knows the saga of the Auburn to Oregon QB.
It’s not always the case.
I’m not as much of a super hater of Long as some. We just need to fix the Oline, hit the portal hard for a receiver, and keep a QB as our starter for more than a game or two cause of one reason or another.
Don’t care who we have as OC this year if we are playing a different QB every week like...
Agreed on this.
I also think 5 is a happy medium. With 5 for TFG GT would only really be on the hook for next year vs the extra years he got with a longer deal. 5 is also not so short the a coach would be shortchanged.
On #4 I don’t even mind a buyout just make sure we get the contract right so it’s not some stupid 7-10 year thing and more like 3-5 years. If they are good we can always do a longer contract after a couple years.
