Agreed on this. I also think 5 is a happy medium. With 5 for TFG GT would only really be on the hook for next year vs the extra years he got with a longer deal. 5 is also not so short the a coach would be shortchanged.

On #4 I don’t even mind a buyout just make sure we get the contract right so it’s not some stupid 7-10 year thing and more like 3-5 years. If they are good we can always do a longer contract after a couple years.

He’s good. Dare I say better than we could have hoped for at this juncture. He’s young, driven, excellent at his job, a former athlete, and has all the respect of those in the know. This might be the best hire GT has made in a decade outside of Nelly as BBall coach for the women.

Again if 10 wins a year is treading water than that means every team not named like Bama, Dawgs, OSU, or Clemson is treading water. I don’t even really think he’d fit at GT has he’s a prototypical midwestern guy. His record is better than any ACC coach not named Dabo.

Not counting the Covid year where they only played like half the amount of games. Paul Chryst avg 10 wins a year. So he’s not even on that list. He’s coaching winning avg is better than any coach GT has had in the last 50 years.

Is 9-4 last year really slipping a notch though? He had one bad year aka the Covid year then immediately went 9-4 the next year. Also there is a big different IMO between avg 7 wins vs say 9 wins a year.

Yeah it’s not about getting them in. It’s about keeping them in. Even Roddy touched on that on his podcast. There is a reason even guys you get just suddenly transfer or try and to the league. It’s the classes once they are in.

In the modern CFB landscape I’m not sure that really matters. Either a guy can coach at GT or he can’t with his staff. Just hiring P5 guys or P5 retreads doesn’t guarantee to help you. You just want guys that can win and recruit in todays landscape with the school that GT is. It’s the same...
