Yep thats the bad part. The one that still sticks out to me was the 20-0 lead we had on ugag in 2013. That one sucked.
Yeah maybe if mbob could have invested in the football program like TSTAN is, things would be much different. Maybe we could have put a competent defense on the field. Now we have a chance of having a pretty good one. Hopefully we can put a good offense to match.

MTSU was certainly a debacle but the 2013 home collapse against the mutts was worse. Plenty remember 2013. Few outside of GT remember MTSU.
And your point would be? There were a couple of UGA home collapses to the team on the Flats that few outside of Georgia would have cause to remember. It's enough that we do.

That was the worst UT team in the history of their program. This what if exercise is embarrassing.

Close but they sent a moving van to a head coach's house once think it was Bill Battle. When they transitioned from the single wing to the I formation in the early 60s there were a few hiccups as one might expect. Tennessee was the last major college program to still be running the single wing in the early 1960s. Generally speaking Tennessee has always been a competitive SEC program with good facilities and a winning tradition. When they had Derek Dooley it was maybe a bigger disaster than that team but they seem to have righted the ship now.

@dressedcheeseside - games just on first glance where we came from behind or from a tie in the 2nd half to win:
2018: North Carolina
2018: Virginia
2017: Wake Forest
2017: Virginia Tech
2016: Boston College
2016: Duke
2016: Georgia
2015: Florida State
2014: Georgia Southern
2014: Virginia Tech
2014: Georgia
2013: North Carolina
2012: USC

Caveat, I just did half time before realizing this article was 4th quarter only, so no doubt some of these will fall away. But it was too much looking up box scores and summaries to go back and do it again. :D

That 2014 game against Virginia Tech stands out. DJ White baited that quarterback until he got him. Smelter came up big in the fourth quarter of that game as he usually did. Doing it at their place with all the yapping going on made it even better.

Interesting list, we are tied for fifth on.

There are four ACC Coastal Division teams on that list. None from the Atlantic. Pretty telling. In fact, the biggest blow lead in FBS history belongs to Miami which blew a 31-0 half time lead against Maryland. Maryland won 42-40. The Terps were coached by Bobby Ross.

Well, almost all the teams were within 1. No real difference. Part of the reason Atlantic teams didn’t blow leads is that you either had Clemson and Florida State, or you had absolute garbage.

That season was the first time in history they won less than 5 games. It was their worst team ever.

My point is clear: No one cares about collapsing to MTSU. Plenty care about the 2013 collapse.

What's better for GT fans and our program? Beating the mutts or MTSU?

The rest of your post is irrelevant: This is a thread about GT 4th qtr collapses. You wanna talk about mutt home collapses - start another thread.

Interesting trivia: That Maryland team comeback was led by QB Frank Reich, who replaced an injured Stan Gelbaugh at halftime.

A decade or so later, NFL QB Frank Reich would replace an injured Jim Kelly and lead the NFL's greatest comeback, aka 'The Choke' as Buffalo Bills rallied from a 35-3 deficit to defeat the Houston Oilers.

This is not true. There are several seasons in UT football with less than 5 wins. They went 4-7 in 1977. It IS their worst season by % in the modern era, and their third worst overall. I would argue that the "worst team ever" label could be either 2017 or 1977.

You’re right. It was their first 8 loss team of all time not their first 4 win.

Either way the team was straight up trash. We lost to the worst UT team ever and our hall of fame coach lost to a guy making $35k as an intern now.

They actually ran the play 5 times, but only 3 were in succession. By the end we had finally brought the NB up to the line to take it away, and held them on third, but that 4th down pass fell right in his arms after it was tipped.
Dangit thanks SO much for bringing that horrible memory back guys

Let’s say we had the crappiest coach ever and now he’s gone. That makes us feel how much better about what we have not even had time to accomplish yet?

They may have had a season when Johnny Majors first took over where they won only 4 and Derek Dooley managed to win only 5 games a couple of times but your point is well taken. Butch is gone now and it would appear that Pruitt is an upgrade. No one should ever lose more than two or three there. They have everything you need as a coach to win football games: Money, great facilities, a rabid fan base, a supine administration that allows all kinds of shenanigans, (I mean, they even have the Fulmer Cup named for a former UT player and coach), a whole array of majors for near illiterate NFL wannabes, gorgeous chicks, everything but a solid recruiting base but they are close enough to Ohio, Georgia and Florida to get plenty of talent. They just have to work a little harder than UGA or Florida. They have quite a tradition of winning football that's for sure.

Yep, with what was it? 600 yards total offense? We commit one critical turnover and put on a clinic on how not to tackle and a game that we were ahead multiple scores in the second half gets away from us. And we still were one correctly pitched ball for a two point conversion from winning it anyway. In retrospect, it was two pretty mediocre teams having a track meet when a football game was scheduled.

The thing is, they were just as undefeated as us when we played them. They were coming off 2 years of 9 wins, and they were ranked (25, albeit) for the game. They were playing their best during this game at least, and they probably stopped caring after losing to UK. It's not like we were playing Rutgers.
