A few other things I noticed/heard from practice today:
- Practice is very fast paced and hype. Today was the first day with pads on. Players are constantly on the move, every event is a competition with the loser getting called out and having to do 10 push-ups. Lots of former players noticed and commented on the differences. (Not hating or trying to start a debate, just stating facts).
- Players were complaining that they were exhausted and it felt like a game in terms of speed and tiredness which is a good thing. Coaches are working them. And this after several former players commented on how XYZ looks bigger/stronger/faster.
- Coaches were constantly on the players, getting after them if they didn’t give 100% or used the wrong technique. Collins and Choice were the most ruthless and high energy.
- DBs were the best position group imo, had several PBU and picks during scrimmage and 7 on 7s. I will add that Johnathan Dwyer, who coached HS runningbacks, seemed really impressed with Jerry Howard and Jordan Mason.
- We’ve implemented the Big Cat Drill (think Oklahoma but only 1-1) and that got the team fired up. I don’t think we’ve used to do this but it was a very fun way to feature 1-1 drills. Connor Hanson dominated his matchups
- It was really windy today but we seems to have some trouble catching punts (besides JT). Feels like Collins is trying to give lots of people opportunities, specially A backs.
- BJS is staying at LB and as expected, most A backs are now slot receivers. Camp and Dolphins looked really good. It was weird but welcomed look to see us line up out of the shotgun.
