I did not even think about our football spend being 61 out of 65 in the P5. Talk about a deal killer for a new head coach.

New Coach interview question:

"So let me understand this. You are truly the bottom of the barrel from a spending perspective, Most kids I will not be able to recruit because of the academic issues. What kids I do get in will have to work hard in school and limit how much time I can spend with them. If they can even stay eligible. I will not be able to bring in transfers because none of them will meet the AP requirements. I wont be able to bring in any good assistant coaches due to a lack of money, the fan atmosphere is weak on game-day, The fans donate to the school and not to athletics. You fired a winning coach with the expectations that I will be able to compete with the Clemson's and Georgia's of the world? NOT INTERESTED!!!"
Don't forget, none of the kids in-state grew up rooting for you, and the school has a reputation for not being very fun to attend. COME ON DOWN, coach!

So why didn't Woody ask these questions, or do these things only apply to head coaches for some reason?

Is Woody our head now? Did he interview to be the head coach? No my post was only about what a new head coach would think,

He saw an opportunity here. An offense that controls the clock and a history of winning here even with a bad defense. He knew a good defense could take us to much better seasons.

UT fans continually give to their program and their program continually sucks. As long as the donations flow in there is no reason to fix the problems.
No they keep trying to fix their coaching problem and they keep making bad choices. At least they have the resources to have a serious recruiting staff. Would love to have their resources at Tech. Being Towards the bottom of football resources suck IMHO and obtw even after our Ross Natty our “fans” did not step up. Because we have a bunch of mediocre fans that have your attitude

So I guess you do think those things only apply to the head coach. Gotcha. We have a program that is completely repulsive to head coaches but those same issues don't apply to assistants. That's convenient when it comes time to find a scapegoat.

So why wouldn't TStan be able to convince a head coach to overlook those issues?

Because it does not matter for a DC. It could be a career killer for a head coach. Not for a DC. A head coach that comes in here and fails is going to have to take a step back and work back up to a P5 job if he ever gets another shot.

Yes, tough academics, tough recruiting, limited time with students, no transfers, and no money for assistants doesn't affect the DC at all. lmao.

Getting a DC from App State is much easier than getting one from another P5 school. I don't think Woody had his phone lighting up in terms of P5 DC jobs last offseason (I actually could be wrong if someone can show me otherwise then I will concede the point. All I found was Wake might have had interest in him in 2017)

Uhh, maybe you need to look at post-Dodd history.....NO well-known head coach has wanted to come to Tech, and it was primarily because they knew how hard it would be to win here, given all the academic restrictions. Everybody was screaming for us to hire Frank Broyles when Dodd stepped down, and at one other time as well. He turned us down in a flash both times.

so, my take on your question is that it's a little off.

Coach Woody came to work for a guy who had ALREADY DEMONSTRATED he could cope with all the negatives. He just had to improve on Roof's peformance.

The DC saw our winning ways with a bad defense. He correctly assumed if he can keep getting the same level of talent (already factored in all of our limitations), he can coach it up to be a much better defense. He saw an opportunity here BECAUSE of the offense that CPJ runs.
