Godsey is one of our most successful players and QB's in our program's history. He's an alum and loves Tech Football and the program
He's already worked with the following coaches in offensive roles:
-George O'Leary as a GA, QB Coach, and RB's coach for 7 years on that UCF staff that was so successful
-Bill Belichik and Bill O'Brien (former GT OC and NE OC at the time) of the Patriots from 2011-2012 as the TE Coach. Coached Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski in that time period.
-Bill O'Brien was then named the Texans Head Coach and hired Godsey as his QB's Coach
-Joined the Lions staff in 2017 and was their QB Coach this past year for Stafford in a pretty revamped, spread offense that could still run the ball efficiently
He's only 39, and a Tech Football Alum that can really bring a much needed energy in terms of coaching and recruiting with a unique style that meshes with a young Geoff Collins and his recruiting stunts to be able to sell Tech to high schoolers in the area. He's had a little college offensive experience, albeit not a ton, but enough to where he has enough experience doing the actual job of and young enough to connect with these kids to where he can be successful.
Gotta believe that having a young OC that went here and actually graduated from The Institute and understands the recruiting pitch for a school with our limitations would only be amplified by the apparent recruiting prowess and connections that Geoff Collins has in the south. Would be a very nice change-of-pace from the recruiting style that CPJ abided by in terms of social media, national recruiting, and prospect outreach, a style that will also be almost be propped up by an increased support staff, funding, facilities, and resources that T-Stan has committed to getting since he took the AD Job.
Gotta think having a career-long history of being a QB Coach at the highest level would at least help ease the transition of arguably the hardest position there will be to transition from the TO to a more spread or varied offense.
What do y'all think about this / who is your choice for OC under Collins?
