FWIW, imo this would be the worst time to change coaches.

We would owe Pastner a large buyout.
We just spent our wad on football so we would likely have to go cheap again.
Would be difficult to attract anyone worth hiring until the infractions shake out and we see what the NCAA decides to do.

Better to let Pastner have the next 2 years and prove on and off the court whether he is the right guy. If he is, great, if he isn't then he is replaced in 2 years, the buyout is lower, it is easier to attract someone as we are likely to be able to both pay more and any prospective coaches will know if there are any repercussions from the current infractions case.

This is an interesting free article from Kelly Quinlan.

He basically says there is nothing to see here and that not much is expected from this. The school has known about this for weeks and has been holding the info until the season ended.
Expectation is that GT may lose a couple of days on the recruiting trail, possible an official visit or two and that is about it. No expected loss of schollies, no expected post-season ban.

So what additional punishment is Tech facing? According to sources inside the program the worst the Jackets are looking at is a reduction in days on the road recruiting or maybe a loss of a few official visits. The NCAA did not find a lack of institutional control or head coach control. Those two are the things that cause a loss of postseason or TV or scholarships.

Is it a hit piece? He's the guy who did the hit piece when the Ron Bell stuff broke.

Pretty much. It largely restates what was in his earlier article and implies that GT isn't being truthful about Bell's role in the program and that GT could get hit hard.
It feels like this writer has been taken in by Bell.

This. If we can't terminate him for cause, he needs to stay on for two more years. It would be an unmitigated disaster to pay this guy a large buyout. Thankfully, from everything I hear that is not going to happen.

Meh, didn’t seem like a hit piece to me. There was nothing new in it. Wasn’t Fake News, just re-news.

It definitely is not flattering. Takes the view that the relationship between Pastner and Bell was such that Pastner "should have known" he was recruiting a transfer out of Memphis. If the NCAA has already ruled on that point that Pastner is clean (but naive) then we are OK and this is a hit piece. If that issue is outside of what the NCAA has actually ruled on then we have issues.

Regardless, this just adds to the milieu of stuff around the program that makes it harder to get the attention of recruits and for them to believe Pastner will be here for their duration.

That’s what made it a hit piece. **** we’ve known for 18 months (on this board) that the local paper that covers the program decided to re-insert into people’s memory for no real reason instead of reporting that action had already be taken, instead they illustrate it like a scandal that just took place

It's already been reported that Pastner has been cleared by both GT and the NCAA, so the bylaw stated above will not apply. Pastner isn't even mentioned in the notice of allegations.

People really need to chill a little in regards to Pastner. We just emptied our bank account to hire a FB coach and his staff. We aren't going to be changing the BB coach for a couple of years until we can replenish a little.
Frankly, Pastner's record his first 3 years is not out of line with any other coach at GT over their first 3 years. Year 4 is where the wheat is separated from the chaff, let's see where we are next spring and then have this discussion.

Just for comparison sake,
Hewitt 48-44, 22-26, 1 NCAA, 1 NIT, 0 20+ win seasons, 17-13 best record (yr 1)
Cremins 41-42, 13-29 0 NCAA, 1 NIT, 0 20+ win seasons, 18-11 best record (yr 3)
Pastner 48-53, 20-34, 0 NCAA, 1 NIT, 1 20+ win season, 21-13 best record (yr 1)
Gregory 43-52, 18-36, 0 NCAA, 0 NIT, 0 20+ win season, 16-15 best record (yr 2)

He was on my 'hell no' list when he was hired, but we'll see how next season goes. His 68.2% FR and SO usage rate this year was the highest of any school in the ACC. I want to see if this program can perform better next year with a more experienced squad.

As always, a very good and rational analysis.

The article seemed like a pretty factual accounting of the Bell Pastner relationship. What it tells me is he is too poor a judge of character to run a major college program and the fact he has his lawyer make a statement to protect himself is pathetic. His need to have his ego stroked put the program in jeopardy and Id fire him for cause and take my chances in court. Id also tell the NCAA to pound sand on self imposed sanctions as we have already done that and Id make a huge issue publicly if they come after us. LeBarrie was just stupid, he deserves what he gets unless he really did lie and then he has no business being a coach again.
