Just because you don't see or hear him barking at people doesn't mean he isn't a leader.

Know this: Our biggest problem by a light year isn't our quarterback, it's our offensive line.
First, wow. You guys get very defensive with Sims. OK, I get that you can't talk bad about players on this site (just learned that). What I said was VERY tame, but whatever. Personally, body language is a BIG deal for me on the field, on the sideline, etc. I'll just leave it at that.

By throwing him out there you are ensuring he hits the portal. Hope is the only thing we have to keep some of our young players from leaving. Throw Pyron out there like we did Gibson and no way he comes back. What parent would want their freshman son thrown around like a rag doll in meaningless games under a lame duck staff and then return? I admit there is no good move going forward. Gibson was brought in to be that sacrificial lamb so let him earn the scholly by taking it for the Institute.
Are you saying that Pyron's parents aren't ITCHING for their son to take over the reins ASAP? How do you know that Pyron isn't light years ahead of Gibson (mobility and speed come to mind immediately)? And before you say "the coaches know more than we do", the coaches also realize the redshirt policies, so there's that.

Why would the current coaching staff care about redshirting anyone. In all likelihood they will be looking for new jobs come December. They will play any player who thinks gives the team the best chance to win the game being played that day.

I’m not saying any of that. I’m saying as a fan of GT football I want our future to be brighter not duller. Putting a true freshmen into a game under coaches who won’t be here in 6 weeks behind an OLine who haven’t been coached in any competent manner is not in the best interests of our 2023 team. The problem is many of you are still holding onto some hope for this season. Accepting reality isn’t a strong suit in some. Our starting QB is done. Our 2nd string QB, our OC, and our OLine doubled UVA’s sack total for the season in half a game. You want to put Pyron thru that? We have Gibson on the roster and are paying him in scholarship money to take one for the team so let him be the sacrificial lamb for the month of November. And I do hope that Pyron is light years ahead of Gibson and Sims both but that has zero to do with playing him in 2022. This season is done. The coaches and team showed us that against UVA. Our only hope for any semblance of decency the next 2 seasons is having Pyron’s high school coaching to have actually taught him how to play and that our next Head Coach can teach our OLine how to block. We’ll have plenty of RB’s and WR’s like every team does. And our defense can only get better from where we’ve been. I’m optimistic about the future. My wish would be we just cancel the month of November because nothing good will come from the next month for GT football.

Maybe because the coaching staff thinks they'll be here next year? Maybe because they aren't selfish bastards and actually care about players rather than burning redshirts?

You keep saying "why put pyron through that". He's more mobile and he's faster than Gibson and can escape and make up for a lousy OL. The real question is Why would you want to put GIBSON through that? He was a pinata in the backfield. I say let Pyron play the last 4 games so he can preserve the redshirt and be ready for 2023. Not thrown into his first game speed action in 2023. If this "season is done", let Pyron get some action. He's a 4 star, elite 11 QB, has tech ever had one of those?

I would put that in the less than 1% probability category. Coaches want to win as much or more than the players. It’s their life and passion.

With the current transfer rules there are zero guarantees a redshirt year makes any difference on how many years a player plays for his current team.

Pyron may be the best chance for Key and other coaches to stay.

Why wouldn't they play him if he helps the team and does that too?

Vad Lee, Donnie Davis, Quincy Carter committed here but saw Joe Hamilton and bolted. I think Shawn Jones would have been highly rated but he came in the late 80's.

This is the only reason we gave Gibson a scholarship - to be the sacrifice when Sims got hurt. Last year it was Yates so we brought in Gibson to be the piñata. Like you said, putting in Pyron who is a real 4 star QB (perhaps the best we’ve had in years) to be a piñata for 4 games is just ridiculous thinking. Even Harsin isn’t doing that to their big shot freshman at Auburn and he’ll be sent packing within a month. Listen, if this were 2023 and we had the future staff coaching in year 1 I’d totally agree with you to let him get some reps for 4 games. But in no way do I want our only decent QB on the roster to be running a Chip Long offense behind that OLine. I’m sure the new AD has already set in parameters so the next coach isn’t left a worse mess than we have today. After what we’ve been through what is 1 more month of watching horrible football so the young guys can start fresh with a new regime and a spring practice of actual practice.

I agree that their jobs are to do what's best for Tech. They're getting paid handsomely to do that right now. Pyron can play in four of our five remaining games and not burn the redshirt, but I wouldn't want his first game to be against FSU. The mismatch of their DL against our OL is too pronounced. Maybe the VT game would be better for that.

Maybe he is, and maybe he isn't, I don't know. But there are a number of different leadership styles and methods, and I don't see how you can make that determination from afar.

I don't ever think I've seen a QB "controversy" where the objective was to put the less capable QB in.
True. Our previous guy has definitely created all time never before seen oddities in GT football history. We will look back at this time period and scratch our heads. It truly has been an amazing 4 years. Let’s just hope that 4 doesn’t turn into 20 years like we’ve seen happen to so many programs. This next hire has to succeed or we could become just another NC State, South Carolina, VT, Arkansas, etc.
