1st off, I agree Pyron should play.

But yes GT has had one of those. His name is Jeff Sims. So who knows lol…
And look what this staff has turned him into. Unfortunately, the Sims era is forgettable. So why in the world would we want our next Sims to be put thru the same thing? Leave Pyron alone until we get a new staff in place. This current staff has already proven they can take a 4 star QB and turn him into a timid 2 star. I want Pyron to be healthy and mentally ready for spring practice. Throwing him to the wolves right now and having him sacked 20 times and beaten to a pulp by VT, FSU, Miami, and UGA will do nothing for GT football for 2023.

I think this is where I disagree with you. Pyron's a stud football player and better be built for contact. He knows how to play the game and not take stupid risks. (My assumption) He should be coached for quick release and to slide rather than take hits in most cases. There is a lot of protection out there for QBs now.

So I think he should play this year, but not enough to burn his RS.

I am confident the coaching staff will put in the players they think give us the best chance to win each game; with consideration for redshirts and aggravating injuries. I don't expect to see Sims against FSU since the ankle area has been injured twice and they take weeks to get back to 100% (Sims wasn't against UVa at the start of the game). Regardless of whether Sims stays with us or transfers, we shouldn't (and probably won't) put an injured player out there for compounded injury. The players long term is more important than the game.

No, sims was not an elite 11 QB. Elite 11 kids are special, like Bryce Young, Stroud.
Vad Lee, Donnie Davis, Quincy Carter committed here but saw Joe Hamilton and bolted. I think Shawn Jones would have been highly rated but he came in the late 80's.
Vad Lee wasn't Elite 11, 247 has him as a 3 star vs 4 star Pyron. Davis, Carter and Hamilton were before Elite 11 got started. But I did forget that Sims was Elite 11...

So what you are saying is, sacrifice the season, don't give Pyron game experience, let's risk Gibson's health as a pinata, and maybe magically the OL will be better next year for Pyron? Got it.

The staff didn't turn Sims into a 2 star. Let's just say it takes two to tango?

the colts just benched Matt Ryan for a more mobile QB with a grand total of 3 pass attempts in the NFL, because their OL is so bad that Ryan was getting killed. Perhaps we take a page out of the colt's playbook?

Yes, I’m saying to sacrifice Gibson. That’s why we gave him a scholly to be the QB when the starter goes down. And, I’m not sacrificing the season this coaching staff is sacrificing this season all by themselves. And next year we will have an entirely different coaching staff so yes I believe we will hire someone who can teach the OLine to do what about 100 other teams do. As for the Colts they are still trying to salvage a season. Our season is over and you guys want to put in a true freshmen behind this OLine and this staff. I don’t see any benefit for our 2023 team to play our only future QB right now. Best case is he gets some reps and shows some life. The more likely case is the kid has to run for his life and gets picked many times and gets Vad Lee’d by a LB. We’ll see how it plays out I guess. I just hope he survives. Sims is pretty mobile and he didn’t.

Glad you aren't the coach; their job is to try and win.

First, wow. You guys get very defensive with Sims. OK, I get that you can't talk bad about players on this site (just learned that). What I said was VERY tame, but whatever. Personally, body language is a BIG deal for me on the field, on the sideline, etc. I'll just leave it at that.

You are new here. Let me give you an insider tip that might help to prolong your stay here. and hopefully help you enjoy the experience...when you join here, you are asked to read and agree to a set of rules and condition to participate here. Most people read and acknowledge and try to stay within the parameters that they have agreed to. A small percentage treat this process as a formality and don't give it much credence. Those people are then eventually freed up to pursue other opportunities on other GT message boards. Welcome, but please read and acknowledge the terms and conditions before posting. Regards.

Football is not about sacrifice or not sacrifice. It’s about putting your best players on the field and true competitors want to play. As for the game the other night, Gibson held onto the ball way too long and can’t scramble (no elusiveness at all), so as for the offensive line they didn’t do as bad as some on here are making it out to be. Long also needs to call a better game with quicker passes (hitches, etc.) to use his personnel better. Pyron based on his scouting report has much better tools to be more effective based on some of our perceived offensive concerns. Still don’t get why Long was dropping Gibson back 5 to 7 steps and not running Dontae. Gibson is also indecisive. Much rather see what Pyron can do with better play calling.

So, AJC article today says both Gibson and Pyron are being prepped to play Saturday. It also sounds like Pyron will have a limited package so as not to overwhelm the freshman.

I am optimistic that Gibson will perform better knowing he's the guy, and am also interested in seeing what Pyron can do. My guess is Pyron is being readied as a change of pace to a running QB (like maybe in the red zone?) while Gibson will get the majority of play based on his game experience in prior years.

Everyone is rightly criticizing the OL performance from Thursday night, but they also are the same group that performed better against Pitt and Duke the previous two weeks.

There's hope for improvement. And that's good news, as I was about to gouge my own eyes out watching last Thursday's game...

More than the offensive line…play calling did not match the personnel, Gibson held onto ball way too long, he’s also indecisive which goes with holding ball too long, and has no elusiveness whatsoever

On your last point, I think some of the fan frustration is over the fact that we did in fact see a regression in our performance against Virginia after having looked improved against Pitt and Duke. It could be something as simple as the OL isn’t advanced enough to handle a defense that has extra time to prepare.

Next week will be informative.

I agree he has no elusiveness. AT ALL. But his holding the ball too long may be correctable. He got it out OK on the last drive (which failed).

Maybe I am overly optimistic, but I am not sure we should write a kid off because of one game.

It could be that uva has a better defense than Pitt or duke

My concern is the comments from key on limiting Pyrons playin. I take it as one of the posters above, that he may be a redzone QB which will do no good IF we only produce 44 yds of offense per half again. And if Long puts him in for QB designed runs only, thats trouble waiting to happen as well.

Hopefully this is just Keys way of phrasing playing time without throwing Gibson completely under the bus, and whichever performs better, plays. I think that will be Pyron, but I only have HS film to go off of so who knows.

Pitt is 22 in DFEI. UVA is 45. Duke is 85.

Probably we played out hard vs Pitt being the first game post CGC and got a little more complacent as the wins came in. Sims getting hurt iced that cake.
Yeah. And I dont think UVA is as bad as people think. They seem more like a team who cant find themselves.
