If sims is done for the year can Gibson and pyron split time during the last four games and pyron not lose his redshirt?
Well, 5 games are left so Pyron could play in four of them and keep the redshirt.
But with this OL? I wouldn't want to leave the guy shell shocked. Hopefully we can get some people in here to block before next season.

Pyron mania time!
I mean i dont see why we wouldnt want to start giving him playing time and focusing on our future now. Kid looks to have talent. Has played in a running offense and a pass heavy offense so he is more likely to be an answer than Gibson and is a Freshman

This is lunacy. Not one coach from this staff will be here the Sunday after Thanksgiving so they have no future. In no way do I want the only QB on our roster to be coached by Weinke or Long. I wish he would be removed from the team until we get the new staff in. We see what this staff did with preparing Gibson knowing that Sims was hurt. You really want our 4 star future QB turned in to a 1 star by these coaches? No freshmen should play until the new staff gets here.

It is not lunacy, and yes I want our coaches to play the best players. The coaches may be gone but in game experience is something every player needs. Put the best player in at each position. I expect that is what this staff is doing.

Sims looks checked out. He doesn't play hard, not a leader on the field (at least not vocally). If he leaves, I'm not losing sleep. He won't get better
this is so far from the truth. they had to take sims helmet from him and he’s been a vocal leader since key took over. he’s been elected team captain multiple times. i have never understood the sims doesn’t play hard/doesn’t lead narrative

Well I wanted to see pyron after Gibson was laying eggs on Thursday. But now knowing that he can only play in 4 games and still be redshirted, I wouldn't mind seeing Gibson play one more game and THEN hand it over to pyron. Let him get 4 games of experience and start anew in 2023.

Wow, what a complete load of crappost this one is.

Just because you don't see or hear him barking at people doesn't mean he isn't a leader.

Know this: Our biggest problem by a light year isn't our quarterback, it's our offensive line.

I agree completely. This poster just joined on Friday, has 4 posts, and I already have him on ”Ignore”. That is a record, at least for me. I may be too hasty, but I have a feeling I don’t need anymore insights like these.
I thought we had an "understanding" that we would not post comments like that about our players. Coaches yes, players NO.

No way Pyron should step on the field this year for a lame duck staff. I don’t understand why so many of you are so short sighted. This year is done. Key can’t work magic and undo years of the previous guys culture in a month or two. We are an infected and sick program. Why some of you want to put our only hope for the future on the field in a sick program is beyond me. Just be patient until a real QB coach can work with him. Yeah, let’s throw him out there so the Hokies , Canes, and dogs can do him like UVA did Gibson.

I would hope there would be a better OL for him to QB behind next season.

THIS 100%!!! I've been a Jeff Sims fan from the time he committed to GT and what I've seen here is that he wants to win, wants to be the guy his teammates can look to for leadership and strength and steadiness. He puts in extra work with the coaches. He puts in extra work on his own. He never wants to come out of the game. He's a guy you WANT to root for.

I do get that people feel he has some limitations and should have improved more than he has. But to me the problems that have hampered his development more are coaching and supporting cast related far more than about his inability to improve. Jeff Sims isn't the reason we haven't had a better offense the last few years. If anyone watched any of the game on Thursday and doesn't believe that Jeff is our entire offense then I just don't know what to say to that. Can he be better? Of course he can. And I am positive he wants to be and that he is doing everything he can to be the best he can be.

with the transfer portal, you cant expect a guy to hang around next year let alone 2-3 years from now. we dont even know if pyron will be here next year because of new coaches, or even lack of playing time this year. so putting him out there now or not doesnt really matter.

I think he was injured and did not get reps.
Correct me if wrong.

Is this line going to be even marginally better next year that we shouldn't give Pyron a baptism by fire right now? Could we see worse results than what we saw Thursday night?

We might get some good transfers. Maybe you're right, I dunno. But I'm thinking we'd better count on those transfers, because otherwise...

FWIW, I think the OL we have is talented enough to hold their own, and given this year as a development year, should be markedly better next year. Constant tinkering with the transfer portal is where I think CGC made his first, of many, mistakes. We would have been better off letting the guys we recruited develop instead of chasing higher rated players that didn't catch significant PT at their original school.
