He wasn't as good overall as JT. Most will probably agree with that assertion. He was probably most capable of running the O this year however. It's pure conjecture on your part to allege any of the backups would have done a better job. Is it possible they might have? Yes. Is it most likely? No. If it had been someone else would have won the starting job.

If JT hadn't had '14 to prove himself. You probably would have called to bench him in favor or MJ after '15. Then we'd have missed out on '16.

Maybe TM wins the job again next year. Maybe one of the young guns does. I trust the coaches will be able to make the right decision there.
... mist capable after JM was injured... [emoji853]

Yes, and you can watch kickers in practice nailing 50 yarders and miss 30s in games. Throwing lazers is all fine and good and if he can't handle the mesh / read in game conditions, the throwing arm is moot. My point is the coaches see these kids day in and day out and are the ones being paid to make the decision who is best to be put on the field........not someone "watching the game" and calling for individual players to be benched. It is ignorant and classless

If your calling me ignorant and classless, well i really don't appreciate that. I mean wtf, is TM some kind of a sacred cow whose abilities and performance can't be questioned? Johnson? Aren't we allowed as fans to do that sometimes?

I don't think he was calling you ignorant or classless. He just said that the coaches see more in practice about certain players than we in the stands ever will. I personally thought there were several times this season when TM should have sat out at least one or two series to get his head on straight. And if the temporary stand-in did better while he was in there, then I would hope the coach would keep him in there until he failed.

you and Jorge Jonas are twisting my words to make your argument sound better and you know it he completed 37% of his passes so saying he can't pass is definitely a valid argument. I think Taquon is a good kid and he goes 110% every game, but IN MY OPINION he did not play as well in the spring game as Jay Jones or Lucas Johnson. Also, from some of the comments i heard it sounded like Jay Jones was the best athlete but didn't get the start because he was a freshman and would make mistakes. It sounds an awful lot like JT and Vad Lee in 2013. Taquon is obviously an intelligent kid and someone who represents the program well but we are 5-6 with a very talented team so obviously there was something wrong with the way the offense rolled this year. The only one here who is willing to Say Taquon was a little bit of both bad and good and has room for improvement was Supersizethatorder-mutt which is probably the truth. I'm tired of arguing... the season is over and we can agree to disagree.

Thanks for the correction. While I agree that TMs passing was sub par, the main reason LJ or JJ didn't play is that CPJ didn't trust them to make the right reads in the option game. It's why, as much of an athlete and passer that Vad was, TW still got the most PT in 2012. It's also why JT sat behind VL in 2013. Gotta be able to run all aspects of the offense. If we just sub in the passing QBs in long downs, then we tip our hands to the D. Best bet is to let the guy who is most complete run the O. This year it was TM. It may well be LJ or JJ next year.

Valid points all the way around...
There is room for improvement in all phases of the team. Offense, Defense and Special Teams' play, at times, more often than not, were contributing factors to our overall record. Lucas Johnson, in my opinion, seems to have been more of a polished passer than the other QBs, but again, that's just MY opinion. That being said, this very reason may have been the deciding factor for CPJ to go with a more accomplished "technician" to the nuances of the system as a whole, as opposed to the passing game.

And my point is that your opinion is based on limited information, not the complete evaluation that the coaches make based on seeing these kids practice day in and day out,. Thus you have no basis to make such a claim that one should play over another.

This thread is so all over the place, I have lost track. Is it about those who want a new head coach? Those who want a new QB? Those who are just angry at each other?

Or is this the "general vent because we had a lousy season" thread now?

It should not all be based on practice. In 1960, Tech had a stud sophomore who was to be our next All American, if he kept his jersey on, by the name of Stan Gann. For the first 4-5 games, he played the first half and we were always getting our butts kicked. Then Dodd would sub a freshman QB who always looked like s--t in practice and would somehow find a way to win the game. His name was Billy Lotheridge who went on to start for 4 years. My point is that though PJ knows a lot about football, his inflexibility to try different players, schemes, etc really does hurt us. I am not saying we should abandon the spread option, but we do need another coach who can tweak it to get the best out of the players we do have. MM is an example of a talent wasted in my opinion. I do appreciate what PJ has done for Tech, but I do think the game has passed him by and it is time we need to begin to move on. I trust our AD to do exactly that. Just my opinion as a Tech fan since the early 60's.

Lotheridge got snaps but Lucas got 0 snaps. Even when way ahead in early season games ( Pitt, unc wf) and even when games way behind he was not good enough per posters to merit a try.

Sure glad lotheridge didn't transfer.

Thats all i wanted this season was to give the kid a chance here and there when Marshall was struggling or game out of hand.

Oh, great googley-moogley.

The Pitt game was 28-17 until we scored a TD to make it 35-17 ... WITH 6 MINUTES LEFT. You're telling me in a 28-17 game in the 4th quarter you want to put in a backup with only a couple snaps to get some experience?

Lucas got snaps against UNC.

And Wake Forest was 31-24 until Taquon's run ... WITH 1:57 LEFT IN THE GAME. You're telling me in a 31-24 game in the 4th quarter you want to put in a backup with only a couple snaps to get some experience?

Putting in a backup in those situations is not a good idea.

I'm not against getting backups some experience, but other than North Carolina, what other game would you put him in and possibly jeopardize the game? Lucas fumbled his only snap against UGA. It'd be a disaster if you stuck him in against Wake Forest when it's 31-24 and he fumbles the snap and WF ties it at 31.
