Interesting article, along with the one about top uncommitted stars (GT was mentioned as having interest with 2 of them). The coaches article reaffirms what has been discussed here several times, Pastner will recruit like crazy and sign several quality players. The key will be getting them to buy into playing as a team. That can come with also hiring a strong X and O coach to work with him.

This is so funny. If Memphis had just called us and offered to swap coaches back in March, they would have gotten a better coach than Tubby.

Regardless of the AP that is still an odd comment. That is like the SEC fans being shocked that Michael Sam wasn't an early draft pick in the NFL just because he was SEC defensive player of the year. So?

Yeah but a lot of times if a coach wins COY or some other prestigious award the conference award goes to someone else (Phil Martelli won the Big 5 coach of the year award this year even with Jay Wright in the league)

Tubby is a really good coach. He can't recruit that well, but he's one of the better coaching minds in the country. Think Memphis overcompensated on the X's and O's after Pastner's recruit first coach later philosophy, but Tubby will win at Memphis. Look at his coaching history. In his 25 years of coaching, he's won 20+ games 19 times, and has made the postseason 20 times (18 times to the Dance). He took over a dumpster fire at Texas Tech and got them to the NCAA in his 3rd year.
If GT had signed Tubby and put him with an ace recruiting assistant, I would have been pretty happy. Of course, being an ex-UGA coach, that was NEVER going to happen.
