His breaking ball was getting squeezed early. I imagine he is tough to catch and tough to call -- nobody will stay in on a borderline call when 96 is occasionally spiked in front of the plate or thrown under dudes' chins. If he gets his command a little more settled, he could be really tough.

First inning took 20 pitches from their starter. Baron got nothing to hit but a 3-0 fastball. They clearly want to keep the ball on guldberg's hands, and avoided baron Guldberg and Baron really bring out the "pitch this guy different"; it's great to have Jenkins, Compton and Reid behind them...

GTapp is brutal every time always. I watch live stats and/or espn if available. ..And I don't think it's fair to say that we hit poorly. When/if Lonsway throws strikes with that stuff, he's tough to hit at nearly any level. In 11 IP of ACC* ball he's struck out 24 w/ 6BB, 2WP and 2HBP...

    Early playing time

Sims and Gleason will play bc the 4QB>1 competition is king thread writes itself. I like Sims bc he is the shiny new thing. Ward will be in the rotation if healthy. This seems like the surest bet. Williams, Rankins and Vaipalu look ready to contribute in different ways. I thought Spiers...

    Dave Patenaude's Offense

Offense (98th) only finished two spots behind defense (96th) in FEI, with special teams (Harvin) killing it at 89th. Should Todd S just go ahead and fire everyone again? (no)

    Dave Patenaude's Offense

I find it weird that a lot of what people complain about with CDP are things that he has demonstrably done-- Do what we are good at (started TO and ran him downhill against Clemstown) Run under center in short yardage (Clemson) Run some of our old formations Run the option Screens, shirt...

    Dave Patenaude's Offense

We have also run tail motion from a flexbone look, but with the "Bback" slighlty deeper in the backfield than CPJ.

    2019 FEI and PPD Data

VaTech's climb in FEI is incredible. They were in the 100s of FEI and are now 39 with improvement across the board. I feel weird picking against Perkins, but I have never liked a line like VT -2.5/-3.

    NC State Postgame

Yeah, I live in California, so unfortunately I can only attend a few games a year. The in-game / total experience has been so bad for the past few years. Tailgating feels like people are hiding in foxholes in the parking decks, the inbound traffic situation is far from welcoming or simple even...

    COFH...Its Hate Week!!

Fromm is chasing Hutson Mason numbers this year. I agree on 1/50, but them getting Smart (being dumb) and trying to showcase for committee, or pride, or radiodwag demand, is our only shot.

    NC State Postgame

I read a study of MLB attendance a while back and the only significant influences upward were going to the postseason and building a new stadium. Obviously, the downward trend is there for all CBD. Seems that converting to an (adult and child) amusement park model with fewer seats and higher...

    NC State Postgame

As others have said, block is your friend. There are one note posters and one note posters who don't know their ****. It's almost the day of rest; no need to poke the toadz.

    What happened?

Mason lettered three times as a centerfielder in baseball, so he can throw it enough, and from the look of it they were setting to pass. I think (imagine?) they were going to pop pass to JG in the Sean, which was there. I would like to see the screen double pass that duke used on VT with...

    Virginia Tech Postgame

Ehh, I see your point and hope they keep Fuente around for that reason. His first recruiting class was bad (#49 per rivals) but they have been recruiting around the top 30 ever since. I don't think Thomas stacks up with Chancellor and Luther Maddy, and Hooker's stat line so far is...

    What happened?

Off chance that the Mason direct snap was a pass. The OL pass set and Mason has a pretty good arm. Not a great scheme since they just manned up, which we could have gotten going to five wides with our QB taking the snap.

    Virginia Tech Postgame

They played Willis against BC and Duke. Against BC he was sacked twice, threw three picks and lost a fumble. He was credited with 13 carries for 13 yards. They packaged-subbed Patterson and Hooker against Duke to disastrous results (familiar to us..) including a fumble off a zone read...

    Virginia Tech Postgame

Here is some apologia... VT jumped 17 spots in FEI after Wake last week. They lost a toss up to Notre Dame with Patterson going 9/28. While I thought we gave up for the first time this season (and seemed unprepared for their blitzes) VT with Hooker would handle Duke and BC. They might be...

    Virginia Postgame

Derrick Morgan started as a true freshman in '07 and was a beast in '08. He was a great player and was not waiting in the wings.

Here is our problem on the Swarm

Baylor has a shot. Minnesota has a shot. That's our goal.

What are the rational reasons we will beat VT?

Reason= they are about like pitt and UVA but do not have elements that force you to bend your gameplan like Perkins or Pitt's front. If we play like last week and win the field position/turnover battle, we win. Not easy, but doable. RB is good; he reminds me of Jimmy Lincoln. They run a lot of...
