  1. OL to go Senior domimant, big +315, powerful +TE's (Stanford 2013) to compete with factories?

I really don’t give a damn about the missed opportunity of acquiring the moniker “Wide Receiver U”. We needed CPJ in 2008, especially when we started to fall behind in the arms race. Any coach that was on our radar at the time who could have recruited better receivers would not have won as many...
  2. When it’s all said & done: J.Gibbs

This. Calvin Johnson is a legendary figure at GT not for his talent alone or his statistics, but for his performances during winning seasons, specifically his role in several major upset victories: see Auburn 2005, Miami 2005, VT 2006, etc. No one will care two decades hence that Gibbs put up x...
  3. Noon kickoff vs the mutts...

I contend that sanctimonious fans who cast judgment on those who do not meet their quixotic standards of fandom suck. Collins and his gimmicks have turned GT Football into a farce. As if that were not bad enough, the on-field product is garbage and the wins have been few and far between. The...
  4. Jeff Sims

The longer this thread goes on the more obvious it becomes that the Yates versus Sims debate has become a proxy Collins versus Johnson debate. And because of this I don't see any resolution. Any critique of the one will be perceived as an attack on the coach who recruited them. As a wise man...
  5. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

I won't speak to the transition, but the pandemic isn't analogous to the scheduling issue. The pandemic applied to all teams; the ACC scheduling issue was GT-specific, and demonstrably so--which is why the ACC put the CPJ-rule in place to correct it.
  6. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Two of those games were against opponents with winning records, all four ACC opponents, and it is the last winning streak we've had. You can feel good about the past three weeks (excluding today); I felt good about them too. What I object to is the implication that we've accomplished nothing...
  7. LOS

I already acknowledged this excuse as valid in my post. I understand it takes time. This can be accounted for in terms of youth and inexperience in the system. And, yes, the scheme rebuild is responsible for those two elements to some extent, and in that sense the excuse is reasonable. However...
  8. LOS

This is reasonable, and I appreciate the point. But then these struggles are attributable to youth, not directly to the scheme rebuild. Of course, you could say that we are young because of the rebuild, and in that sense the rebuild can excuse the poor play of the OL. If that is the argument...
  9. LOS

I buy the youth part. I buy (to some extent) the idea that transfers need time to gel. But at this point, I do not buy scheme rebuild part. Sure, the struggles of the players who were present for the transition can be attributed to the scheme rebuild; I do not believe anyone disputes this. But...
  10. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

This is just not true. We won four games in a row in 2018, with some very impressive offensive performances.
  11. Gameday!!!!!

Why be divisive by questioning the fandom of those with whom you disagree like this? We are all GT fans at the end of the day. People are allowed to be frustrated. It’s a message board.
  12. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

It’s hard to believe this is the same team that soundly beat UNC last week. What is with our defense? You’d think we were playing Alabama or something.
  13. Gameday!!!!!

Can someone please explain to all of us why we make Pitt look far better team than they really are year in and year out? As I mentioned in the chat, this isn’t a Collins issue; it has been an issue since 2015.
  14. Game 5 Predictions for Pitt. @ G.T.

We put last year’s debacle behind us and defeat Pitt 24-20. I think the defense plays well throughout, but the offense might struggle a bit initially. We will score enough to win with yet another solid defensive performance.
  15. Thoughts on GA TECH v UGA at Mercedes Benz Every year?

This is a rant, but it is a hard “no” for me. I don’t care how much money would be in it for us, how many beer taps MBS has, or how comfortable the seats are. We have a renowned on-campus stadium that has atmosphere, character, and history. Sure, it is deficient when you compare it to the...
  16. Pitt is favored

I really covet this win because Pitt is a team we should consistently beat, but yet we don't. The same is true of Duke, whom we managed to lose to even during our best season since 1990. These are games GT needs to win four out of five times, but the opposite has been true as of late. That needs...
  17. Updated win loss projections

After the UNC win and especially considering the inconsistency demonstrated by our Coastal opponents so far, I’m back to my initial expectation of six wins. I think this is a bowl-bound team. We should beat Pitt, Duke, UVA, and either VT, BC or Miami.
  18. Corner turned?

I don’t know if we’ll be able to determine that until the end of the season, but it sure seems like it at the moment. Other than UGA and perhaps Notre Dame, every game seems winnable now. Funny how three weeks can change one’s outlook. I thought we’d be lucky to beat Duke two weeks ago.
  19. #UNCvsGT Postgame

Best performance of the Collins era, obviously. I am becoming more and more optimistic about the future under his leadership. Congrats to players and credit to the staff for having a great game plan! We have unfinished business next week, as I recall, with Pitt. That is a win I covet after last...
  20. #GTvsCLEM Postgame

Yeah I have to agree here. There were a few frustrating playcalls, but that is inevitable. The offense did struggle, but I think most offenses would struggle against their defense, so we need to think in relative terms in judging the offense. I was encouraged to see us sustain a few drives...
