I think I have begun to believe what we really need is an excellent coaching staff of assistants....with a head coach who is just a great recruiter but leaves the real coaching to the assistants. That seemed to be Hewitt's path to success (until he lost his assistants and...) and even Cremins...
I still wonder if it is not Pastner, but Reveno who was primarily responsible for the improvement we used to see from early in the year to later. He was our big man coach and that offense is so reliant on good decision making from the big man in the high post, plus our defense relies on a rim...
While the majority of us on this message board have no clue who a good replacement would be, I can only hope that J Batt is already making his own list (and checking it twice).
@Peacone36 maybe with a new AD there will be more sanity to the new hire!
The issue will be guys who aren't highly touted out of HS, whom we are lucky or skilled enough to develop into top notch talent, who may then be wooed by NIL deals in their latter years.
It will be interesting....not necessarily encouraging, but interesting...to see where this all ends up.Just think where ancient Rome wound up when they went down this rabbit hole....a coliseum packed so people would watch others slaughter each other.
Gracious...some programs have enormous turnover. Colorado has 23 incoming commits, and Arizona State has 26!!! Our number (11) seems average or perhaps even below average.
You make good points. My only quibble is when you describe Collins as having been successful at Temple. He inherited a program in very good shape which had gone 20-8 in its previous 2 years under Matt Ruhle. Collins then went 15-10 in his brief stint. That wasn't enough to dub him as successful...
If I were Batt I'd tell him that he has to make changes in his staff this off season ore he himself will be gone. The HUGE question is whether Pastner is competent as a head coach in hiring good assistants. The jury right now would say "no". My recollection was that the AD when Pastner was hired...
