Doesn't matter. CPJ proved last week he is willing to pull him when it's not working. First series Howard fumbled, 2nd series TQM seemed to make all the reads and had a good TD drive, 3rd series has issues on some reads and was pulled. There is zero benefit from saying otherwise to the media. Make Miami prep for both. I do think TO gives us the best chance against Miami though. Miami game plan is going to be centered around their defense making negative plays and forcing turnovers. TQM seems to stretch things out and get bigger plays, TO takes what he can when he can.

I don’t really see this as Johnson having a short leash for TaQuon or pulling him because he’s not playing well enough. To me it feels like he thinks TQM is “safer” and is using him to get a feel for how the defense is playing, then putting Oliver out there with an idea how to attack them. If the playing time was getting split based on how well the O was functioning, we probably would have seen TQM get a drive or two late when we kept turning it over. I think this method is a damn good way to help ease a young, inexperienced QB into the action.

I think it is more about keeping a banged up Senior QB playable, rather than just letting him get banged up even more and possible ending the season early.

Hes already said twice that hes not gonna bench a Senior QB unless he isn't clear to play or has a bad practice week. TQM will be the starter for the rest of the season unless he absolutely cannot play. It also keeps other teams on their toes as far as if TO will actually start or when he will play. Also we don't want to risk having TO getting hurt as well, that would really screw us

I don’t mind this. Imo against Miami we need more of the play book open and I believe TM gives us that. I do think it will be a short leash though.
I keep hearing TO only has small percentage of the offensive playbook down and thus TQ is a better option. This is like talking out both sides of your mouth. TQ misses so many reads how much of play book does he actually have down? Dont get me wrong I'm all for publicly naming TQ the #1 guy, but we all know who the #1 guy is.

Talking out of both sides comment wasn't directed towards you 47. Generalizing

Missing reads is different than knowing the playbook.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure CPJ's quotes in this article were verbatim from what he said last week:

“I don’t see why he wouldn’t. We’ll see how practice goes.”
“I think both of those guys have handled it well. It is what it is. It’s a good problem to have if you have two good players.”
Not sure that warrants an emphatic headline that TQM will start. That reads to me like CPJ is dodging the question. Because, why tell Miami?

Personally, I think TQM will start and CPJ will decide who to play based on what the defense is giving him. TQM and TO have different skill sets.

Who gets the nod for the miami game??? Maybe this is where I'm worried TO's inexperience can hurt him. Playing a true athletic team on defense. Still think he is our best, "option".

I get this, but when TM is healthy he runs this offense better than TO from what I’ve seen because he has more of the playbook so it seems, and those misreads are not as often. I also saw TO missing reads this week.

TO proved he knows all the plays TQM runs. TO has done the following:
  • rocket toss
  • triple option (one pitch)
  • midlines (and variations)
  • QB follow
  • counter trap dive
  • trap dive
  • counter speed option
  • power option
  • 1 BBack sweep/toss (I think)
  • Aback reverse
  • Zone dives
  • QB follows
  • Zone QB sweeps
Has not done a counter option (I think)

Pros - he reads as well or even better than TQM
Cons - he has not broken off long runs like TQM - pitches are not as clean either at TQM

I’m going to trust the coach on this one

“He fit what I was trying to do. There were not a lot of reads.”

I don’t think this just means reading the option too. Oliver might not be ready to line up, read a defensive front and make a play direction/play call change.

I’d also say, if Marshall had one less triple call in three drives than Oliver had all game, it shows either the play wasn’t needed, or Johnson still doesn’t full trust it.
