This kind of stuff is way different from CPJ

And then there's in-game coaching, play calling, adjustments, tweaks, "chess playing", etc. Stuff the last guy was real good at.

Well, a lot of those schematic (mostly around blocking) adjustments I was referring to were in-game calls, but even on those, I am sure they were practiced at times and not just drawn up and run for the first time in the game. Our last coach was excellent at this, but the guys were also prepared for the changes he made in-game.

Again, hoping CGC and his coaches do understand the need for this type of strategy both pre-game and in-game.

I'm sure they understand the "need" for it, the real question is can they pull it off?

I guess that is a good way to bracket the concern.

But, if they believe this need to be lower in the list of priorities, then the desire and passion to implement such a non-predictable O will not be as great. But, as you state, you can have knowledge and passion, but still not have the wherewithal to "pull it off".

My sarcastic answer would be "Probably not, since none of them know football or have ever coached before. Hopefully they'll turn to the experts on this board to learn." But I won't say that.

Well.....according to some of the posters here......all you need is recruiting and a "NFL scheme" ;)

I don't disagree that such a view is simplistic, but I also don't naturally question whether our new coaching staff understands that they have to have a pre-game strategy and adjust it in-game. I don't think we hired a entire coaching staff that doesn't know football.

they know, its not stalking....they can still communicate via messages etc....back when GOL did it they can call coaches but coaches couldn't call them, and the messages were sent out...
12:01 a.m. is stalking by any definition.

And will there be any game day coaching advantage.....offense or defense?
If it is all about recruiting.......why isn't FSU the NC (or close) for the last two years considering the recruiting classes they had ;)

Animal, that's a cherry-picked example. Tennessee would be another one. The fact is that recruiting and winning are strongly correlated overall, but no one thinks recruiting is the be all and end all. Obviously, coaching is important, too. Everyone knows that. Bottom line is that we can speculate whether recruiting and/or coaching will be improved or take a step back. I personally think recruiting will probably be improved (yes, more money and staff are part of the reason, along with better recruiters and a more NFL-friendly scheme), but the coaching aspect is more in question. We'll find out.

It was a bit of snark.....because some posters here have acted like because Tech hired a "recruiter" that all the problems are solved. Of course it requires coaching....that was my point..........as well as keeping them eligible.....whether it be academics of adhering to team rules.

This argument is beyond ridiculous. CPJ was a good coach but there are plenty of others as well. In the end, CPJ ended at the same place as CCG. Let it go and get behind the new staff or find another team like Navy. Every thread can not be the same arguments.

I agree.

I’d like to point out that of these four requirements for a successful college football program—(1) recruiting, (2) coaching, (3) keeping the players academically eligible, and (4) maintaining discipline through enforcement of team rules—our new head football coach has not yet proven to have accomplished any of them yet.

He has just started. Let’s give him time and see how everything goes.

I hope he succeeds!

I'm glad that seemingly good recruiters (and ones with more energy, as stech81 pointed out) were hired to the coaching staff, because that has been a major, major stumbling block, one that pretty much prohibits us from competing with the big boys on a consistent basis. CPJ's scheme gave us an advantage on game day that cannot be denied (IMO), but it was just time for a change. I think CPJ himself knew that, which is why he very gracefully bowed out. We have got to start recruiting better than we have been (and I'll reiterate that money and staffing were major impediments, and still are, although improved). I hope and think we will.
