Forget quarters, let's look at it a different way.

Drive 1: 3 Plays, 3 yds 1:36 Punt
Drive 2: 6 Plays, 15 yds 4:01 Punt
Drive 3: 3 Plays, 75 yds 1:35 TD
Drive 4: 4 Plays, 16 yds 1:39 Punt
Drive 5: 1 Play, 2 yds 0:42 End of Half
Drive 6: 4 Plays, 25 yds 2:37 Punt
Drive 7: 4 Plays, 9 yds 1:22 Downs
Drive 8: 3 Plays, 75 yds 1:26 TD
Drive 9: 3 Plays, 84 yds 1:38 TD
Drive 10: 4 Plays, -6 yds 1:44 FG
Drive 11: 3 Plays, 3 yds, 1:57 Punt
Drive 12: 4 Plays, 5 yds 0:59 Downs

We had 1 single drive that consisted of more than 4 plays, and it ended in a punt. Successful GT drives (4 total) consisted of 13 plays elapsing 6:23 of game time. I get that our offense was able to make those explosive plays happen, but more often than not, they weren't getting it done last Saturday. Take out drive 5 and we were successful on 36% of our possessions. Realistically, you could also discount drive 10. Our D held UVA to a stop on their end of the field and then proceeded to lose 6 yds before settling for a FG. So no, our offense wasn't particularly good for most of the game Saturday.

That being said, I am still a strong believer in our offensive system and the coaching staff. I just point this out because I think our consistent failure to eat clock against UVA was a detriment to our D, and in spite of that detriment, our D performed admirably.

I completely agree.

How do you disagree with these numbers. The defense normally would have given up at least 21 pts, but they bowed up and made plays. Any other comments about this only proves that the Roof hate is blinding the haters to what actually happened Sat.

I wouldn't go that far. We were facing a back up QB on a poor offensive team making his first start this year and the wind did help some, so there is some truth to those statements. The converse to your argument are that Roof loyalists will deny every bad thing to prove Roof right. I am neither. I see a well played game and plan two weeks in a row. We had some help, but all defenses do at some point. It's whether or not you take advantage of the help that counts. The last two weeks we have done so. CTR isn't redeemed, but in my opinion, he has the D moving in the right direction.

No one is saying today's D was the reincarnation of the Steel Curtain. But come on....the Roof haters never give the D or coaches credit for good plays or performances. It's always the other team gifting bad plays to us smdh.

I can still see why some don't like Roof, our scheme, etc. But being a unable to give credit where it is due proves they are not completely rational in their "assessments".

I agree. I told @Jmonty71 that if the bathrooms at BDS@HGF ran out of toilet paper, he'd find a way to blame the crappy CTR coached defense. :D

Majority of other teams have a passing attack to off set the free willing FS. Most other teams don't seem to have as many missed assignments along the OL like we do.

We have a passing attack to make them pay also, and is a big reason why our O makes so many big plays.
Having said that I think CPJ is at times to stubborn establishing the run and misses some opportunities passing at times. I was critical of him not throwing more in the first half vs UVA.
I also realize he has a much better clue how to run his O than me and has a little better handle on how our personnel stacks up vs the opponent.

Any team that has a good NT and one more decent DL along with a decent FS have reeked havoc on this offense routinely.

The problem wasn't the NT per se, it was the fact that they had our snap count down cold. On the long MM TD run, I was shocked they didn't call the NT for offsides. He was in our line so fast it wasn't funny. I don't know how easy/hard it is to change that in game, though.

Also, JeT just seemed to be a little off. Sean Bedford commented that he seemed a bit off in regards to pitch relation. Maybe some of that is rust from being out with the injury. I have faith the O will be back, though.

Spikes was talking about our splits on the OL. He suggested they gave the DL an advantage hitting the gaps and he also stated our snap count to. He was pretty insightful on some of his assessments. He was a pretty good LB.

I don't know. You may give him a run for his money.

I'm not saying our offense played great, I'm just saying I don't think we can blame them for scoring quick and not having long time eating drives in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. I agree they were awful in the first and fourth quarter, although I think we went conservative in the 4th but that's no excuse. And yes I know the O didn't help by keeping the D on the field because they couldn't eat time off the clock, but the D self inflicted that on themselves as well, like the second drive for UVA, and that was before the depth thing and guys getting tired argument could be made imo. Like I've been saying this isn't about this game because they did enough to win but it's about if we play a better offense with how our D played we would give up more points imo. I also think that about our O, if they played a better D they probably wouldn't have scored as much. Honestly it was a sloppy game all around imo.

There's a risk/reward trade off to having LB's lining up in the gaps and jumping at the snap. It sets up the quick pitch or rocket toss and now you have no LB's chasing to edge.
