Former UK Quarterback Patrick Towles Offers Insights on Georgia Tech Defense
“They were very smart defensively. We had a really good plan against Georgia Tech. Because it was the first game of the year we were not entirely sure what kind of looks we were going to get. But our offensive coordinator did a great job getting us in good plays based on their looks,” Towles said.

Did Georgia Tech remind him of any defense he saw or faced in the SEC during his four years at Kentucky?

“I wouldn't say they are very similar to any defense that I've played in the SEC. They are not as big,” Towles said.

Rearrange the bsckfield and split the ends and you couldn't tell the difference in the option of 1960 and today. And interesting to see Chick Graning again. It was later that year, I think, though maybe 1961, that an Alabama LB ended his career with an elbow to the face covering a Graning fair catch. Almost killed him, and the Alabama sideline celebrated. while trainers tried to stabilize him on the turf. Led to the final estrangement of Dodd and Bear Bryant.
