My 2 favorite recruits from the Jayland ratcliffe class were and are redshirt seniors now - omari Jarrett and nate Cottrell. Both were super fast in hs, but the ab was featured less and less during last 2 years.
See that jarret added wt to move in side as a rb .
While getting much better muscle definition did cottrell stay same weight? Wow, he looks like a grown man.

When I see these lists, I immediately look for PHarvin's progress.

I'm all for the weight gains since the new blocking schemes (if they are like typical shotgun schemes, that is) don't require the same level of flexibility or speed. I sure do hope that speed and flexibility aren't decremented too much, however; that was a strength of the old OL and I'm hoping that will carry over. I'm glad to see the right progress in some directions as well; Hansen is down 11 pounds to 314, more his optimum weight, I'd say. If he has recovered, he'll push Southers (got it this time) hard for one of the guard positions or move Cooper back to center where, imho, he belongs. Left out: Minihan is up to 297 and may start to push on to the field as well.

I note also that Wright is still listed as a QB. We'll see where he ends up this fall.

Just looking at him rowdy around w freshmen, he seems athletic and he has pistons for legs. He s 1" shorter than any 2020 ol guard recruits, but if he has the leg drive i suspect, he is plenty tall.
Trent Howard says hello.

Also, here are the heights of the starting OL for Clemson as of this June:

6'6" 6'4" 6'5" 6'3" 6'2"

Very comparable, thought the taller Tiggers are heavier. I don't think this obsession with height is necessary, though Key seems to. We'll see how that works out on the field.

Really would be interesting to know how this S & C guy worked to keep flexibility and add strength. Seems like in winter and earlier they were doing lots of innovative excercise ( the old wheel barrow race, planks while guys crawl under) and now we see more weight training.

Like u i hope we get both!

Lost the most weight. Went from 210 to 190.
He ought to be lightning quick on his cuts. When they hit him during his cuts up field , he was slippery and almost always got 5 yac.

Qb battle could go on for whole season as cgc has set plays for each of these guys. Pretty big difference.

W are looking good at qb - imo.

I agree. A lot of people seem to be worried, but the guys we have will have at least decent throwing abilities (I remember hearing that Tobias set his HS passing yards record). But another element, is that the 3 non-FR are all accustomed to scrambling, taking off quickly. I think if they end up being terrible passers, we'll still have a solid double option/screen type gameplan to fall back on.

Part of me knows the ripped muscle game with the before after photos. But the other part of me wonders wtf we were doing under the old strength staff. Because some of these are obvious gains from a standpoint of quality of physique. And thats only in 6-7 months. So something gives

Height on Ol super important on outsides at tackle. Less so for C and G. Frame size and specifically arm length and reach are why u want the height. Generally they are proportionate.

According to one of the parents, the strength staff and Sisk were doing exactly what they were instructed to do.

I think, if we needed to, we could dig up some of the posts. Having the linemen be more lean seems like it was one of the goals.

Supposedly earlier today CGC said that we had 32 guys hit 20 reps or more of 225 pounds on bench press. At the beginning of camp that number was 7. I think the previous staff was more focused on flexibility and endurance, but that increase is pretty significant if the new staff is focusing on strength. Definitely shows the gains of a large amount of the players.

let’s go with this philosophical discussion then. What is the purpose of the training the way Sisk does it? What is the purpose in comparison to what we are doing now and how does it fit Paul’s scheme? Would we have been more successful if we did this conditioning under Paul?

Well think about the DL. We were always woefully undersized and usually offered little to no pass rush. Being “quicker” there made no sense when you’re playing Clemson/uga/etc quality lineman every year.

I know this is the conventional view, but the 6'2" (290, btw) OL I listed above is Clemson's starting left tackle.

So it depends on the athlete and I think putting a set of preconceived rules in place about height and size is a mistake. But they aren't paying me for that opinion so I guess we'll go with what we get. A return to conventional thinking does not reassure me, however. We'll see.
