This implies that we behave in an acceptable fashion only when we are forced to when the boss is watching. As Coach Wooten said awhile back, "character is what you do when nobody's watching".

I have always maintained that the anonymity aspect of these things embolden people to speak to and about others in ways in which you don't see in day to day interactions with other people. I like to believe even our most boorish and obnoxious posters here would actually be pretty decent people if one were to sitdown and discuss these matters over a beer or cocktail.
The times we are in.

It’s those people and we know how they are. We are totally depersonalized by them.

Yes, discourse is the worst I’ve seen and anonymity makes it worse. Face to face communication without misunderstanding is hard enough but throw in social media which flattens conversation and makes it one dimensional and any sour mood can escalate to nuclear levels.

Well, alcohol doesn’t always work that way. My roommate my senoir year at GT was one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet, until he drank.

My only point in this discussion is lighthearted humor should be encouraged. It is healthy and cathartic. Our HC makes a great deal of $$ and is a big boy.
Ever think of something really funny to say and then wonder if it might be taken the wrong way? And then you think about adding a smiley face or emoji but then what was funny about it looks stupid? Doing deadpan humor is hard with strangers.

But I lose my best material that way.

I cannot like this enough. Especially the bolded part...

It really is that simple but we have some who like to bloviate about how bad some GT fans. It’s all just funny and part of the reason I enjoy reading this board. You have the doom and gloom group (of which I’m a member) and then you have the smarter than everyone else group who loves to tell everyone else how to be better fans and trying to get mods to ban folks for valid opinions. It’s awesome to follow.
I don't know...I don't think it is nearly as much fun as Canesinsight or Gator Bait when the knives are out and they have no qualms about going after players. Maybe because they are getting paid anyway.

This seems like a big loss because, by all accounts I've seen, Suddes was doing a great job. However, the loss of Suddes will have minimal bearing on the outcome of the 2022 season in my opinion. We have our players in place (assuming no other meaningful contributors leave) for this fall at least. In the long term, his departure could prove more of an issue. At the same time, it's also possible a quality replacement can be found at the general manager position. Some might even suggest Geoff Collins himself move from head coach to GM. It's hard for me to envision this happening at Tech and isn't happening this year, but I do suspect it would suit his talents better.
Geoff reminds me a good bit of former Florida coach Ron Zook. Both can recruit and sell an idea like nobody's business but the day to day management of a team, especially the discipline aspect remains a mystery. I think he would make someone an excellent GM or just recruiting coordinator.

For some of the haughtier around here, boorish behavior = simply the expression of an opinion they take strong exception to.

Several times I've been called "stupid" by the better-than-thou crowd and that was tacitly overlooked by the powers that be because my opinion was not their own.

There is a way of stating an opinion that can cross the line. But some folks think some opinions themselves do that - if they disagree with them.

As I said privately to someone else I don’t envy the mods their jobs. There are at least two areas where this gets really complicated to me.

1. Someone will take a general swipe at “an attitude” they don’t like. They can belittle, disparage or vilify this attitude without calling any names. They can then claim that this wasn’t a personal attack because, even though they called them a piece of s_ _ _, they didn’t specifically name anyone. This effectively delivers their level of destain and no one was supposed to take it personally. Until the ad hominem roars back from the other side.

2. I hate to say it but a couple of posters on here can get away with more than others. Their strongly held opinions are apparently more knowledgeable than the rest of us so they can essentially call you a fool and get away with it. If they call you a fool it must be true because nobody knows fools better than them and you should not take it personally.

All of this could be helped if we all tried to practice a simple rule. If I disagree with someone it is the idea I am disagreeing with not the character of the person expressing the idea. When things get heated it might mean just saying “we disagree” and move on. But, as I am sure you have noticed, some can’t let a disagreement drop. And even after you have agreed to disagree they will subtlety keep inserting that opinion in other conversations, other topics and other threads. If you ignore it, unfortunately, it becomes settled law. One example is that years ago people expressed strong opinions about CPJ’s recruiting that totally contradicted everything the man ever said publicly about recruiting. But some of us gave up on that argument and just started ignoring the comments. Because they said it for so long with little push back they now say, “Everybody agrees that Johnson didn’t like recruiting.” The fact that this became fact when it wasn’t a fact may be a small part of why we have Collins now.

End of diatribe.

And hold themselves up as paragons of virtue.

I've certainly been guilty of lingering in a disagreement too long in the past.

I've noticed that it's the oblique personal digs that get inserted that stoke a disagreement and expand it beyond its original basis. Without the personalization, people can more quickly agree to disagree and move on. And so can I...

How much do you think ADTS contributes to the hire for Suddes replacement? Seems reasonable that the more he controls the hire, the more CGC is challenged to produce or step away. Our maybe the question should be why would ADTS empower CGC to control the hire? Not asking to stir the pot, more curious of the current dynamic between coach and AD.

Was Suddes resignation immediate or did he give notice. I would think he left immediately. Thats generally what is done. Rough time to have to make that hire with practice looming and assuming he will be more involved with the defense. Still need to hire a DL coach. I do hope TStan is involved with the Suddes replacement.

Has anyone else noticed that the director of applied sports science, one of CGC's early off field hires, and the social media specialist "Morpheus" replacement also have left the program?

"Morpheus" left a while back. He took a different job in the industry that was, for all intents and purposes, a promotion for him.

I was unaware of Horton leaving. He is still listed on the GTAA site.

Not the original Morpheus. The guy who followed him.

And this is the latest roster from ramblinwreck.com.

That’s a good post. Nothing more expensive than a bad hire - except not recognizing it and moving on. That costs more
It is nice rule, except when you are in the position of simply not yet being able to afford to fire the person. I would bet that if TStan had some excess cash available he would have done that. But with the money we would have to eat, he would need to find a guy to coach us for free for a few seasons and that is not going to happen. So, with the long contract he gave CGC, we are stuck for another year, and we are left hoping for a miraculous turnaround.

I tend to agree with this. I would wager that 50% or more who post here have mad bade hires and/or fired other people's bad hires. But I am willing to bet that NO ONE who posts here has fired a guy with a 7 figure contract and a guaranteed payout upon being fired. And for most of us who have fired people, we were in companies with good reputations in our fields (assumption here), meaning that the pool of applicants would be people with estabilished track records and reputations that were easy to vet withinour industry. Georgia Tech is not in the same position. Whether the current coach succeeds or not, the next guy will be similar in stature...a young, unproven guy who is "full of potential". But I just don't think this is a good job anymore and smart coaches know that. Of course, with a 7 figure salary and a guaranteed buyout, I suspect several of us alond with hundreds of others who may have actually coached somewhere sometime will send our applications in along with references from our Moms and pastors and former Scou leaders.
