Rotating QBs good or bad ?

Boy, in your video of the spring game back about two years ago, LJ sure looked decisive and very effective in running CPJ’s spread option offense. Excellent point.

Now, after three games this season under a new and different offense, LJ has not looked as decisive and confident in his play, other than two long completed passes (one for a TD) in the Citadel game.

I suspect he hasn’t looked as good in the three games so far due to “information overload” in trying to do what he has been coached to do in the new system. Hence he has been feeling pressured and hesitant and unsure.

I guess that for him, it will take a while to gain experience and get more comfortable in the new system ... providing the OL can improve both its run and pass blocking to help him along.

Really, all that matters to me, is making sure TO is on the field and gets his hands on the ball as often as possible. Except for downs to rest, he needs to be on the field. Been going to games since the mid-60s and seen a lot of players come and go. He combines vision, balance, escapability, and speed with some of the best I've seen. Oh, I forgot to mention toughness.

Yes. He’s a stud. Make him the starter at quarterback, and keep calling some passing plays mixed in so he can gain experience and effectiveness in that area.

In conclusion, he’s a stud of a horse!! The coaches need to play him at QB and support him through his growing pains.

I dunno. I don't think the situational swapping is as big a deal as people are making it out to be.

On 3rd and 9 they trot out Lucas to replace Tobias. We're gonna throw it anyway, why not put in the better passer? It's not like it's gonna be a surprise. Lucas is athletic enough to run it, but as someone else pointed out, he just doesn't look the same. He looked very tentative against USF and Citadel.

I will say, though, I'm not a fan of 2-QB (or 3) systems. But, if Patenoob (you heard it here first) can't find a guy who can run what he wants to run, then I guess we're stuck with the platoon for a while.

I read somewhere today that Lucas is in a sling. I watched the game again and saw early in the third Q on a run by Lucas that he hurt his shoulder being tackled and came out of the game holding his right shoulder. He was then seen leaving the field for the locker room. A little later the announcers reported that he was back on the sideline, In the most critical plays of the game with only a couple of minutes to play and in overtime he was reinserted into the game? I am having a lot of trouble with a banged up Lucas replacing Oliver in those circumstances. Any insight?

That looked fishy to me. TV showed Lucas being escorted into the locker room before he came back out and was re-inserted into the game in overtime.

Cortisone shot? I dunno ...

Telling part of the article is the following ---
“These guys are battling to earn playing time, and however much playing time they get is determined upon what they do in their body of work since we’ve been here, and it will continue that way moving forward,” he said.
There might be wisdom in choosing one quarterback and sticking with him. Patenaude has said he would like for one of the quarterbacks to claim the job, but he and Collins clearly are not at that point, and the differing skill sets of the three only complicate the decision.

IMO I don't see what more Oliver can do to prove that he moves the team forward better than Johnson, and that settling on ONE QB will help us develop a rhythm on the field, that multiple QBs can never do. So I guess we should expect more of the same crap moving forward. DAMN !!!

There is one bright spot to this quote... "is determined upon what they do in their body of work since we’ve been here". Prior to this, it has always been how hard/ how well they are practicing and competing that week. Perhaps he is just now saying it or perhaps he is just realizing that a body of work should be enough to overcome one bad practice...

Something to think about: Tobias has 2 more years of eligibility after this year. It seems to me that Collins and Patenaude see Tobias’ future at a position other than QB. Unfortunately, the other QBs haven’t done enough yet to inspire confidence, and Tobias is the only one on the roster who can consistently move the ball. I think they’re struggling with trying to transition Tobias for success in his future role while also trying to win games now. Tobias could have real potential to get drafted as a receiver or 3rd down back. The longer Tobias stays at QB, the more his post-QB development gets delayed. But we need to win games. If James Graham can be the guy (because it doesn’t look like Lucas can), then Patenaude should stick with him and just move Tobias to his new position. Clean break. But if no one else can helm the offense competently, I think Patenaude needs to face that fact and stick with Tobias for the time being and hope that someone else can show out next offseason. I think Collins is hoping for a Braxton Miller/JT Barrett situation, but that may not be the reality here right now.

Eh... I really disagree here. I love Tobias. I watched him command my son's HS football team for two years, and he was a stud on the field and a great kid off it. However, he has never been a good passer, most games were like 4/10 80 yards or so. He was a great runner, but he is no running back (tall and lean). They would run at least one play a game where he would split out and when he did he was 100% getting the ball thrown to him - worked about 50% of the time.

Has he even lined up yet as WR in a game?

He is a great athlete and that is why he excelled at HS ball but also why no other big time programs fought over him.
