What gets CPJ fired or encouraged to resign?

If we miss a bowl and let go of Johnson this year (50/50), I hate to say it, but every week I like the idea of keeping Nate Woody and hiring Brian Bohannon more and more. I know that will absolutely freak out those folks that hate the option, but the guy could fix a lot of the other issues that folks have with CPJ, including improved recruiting, a fresh look and potentially more flexibility in the offense, better media relations, etc. It also avoids the potential devastating impact of switching from the option to a non-option offense and fosters the continued improvement of our D.

Plus, the guy has taken a brand new KSU program, improved them every single year, is 18-3 in his last 21 games, made the FCS Playoff quarterfinals last year, and looks primed for anther deep run this year. If he ran the spread, I think lots of folks would be calling out his name. He also has roots in Georgia and would probably come at a reasonable price tag.

Would be interesting to see if Johnson would like that plan or hate that plan, but I am increasingly becoming more and more a fan of it.

Tennessee hired Butch Jones. I mean, what could go wrong?

lol. You give me a full proof option of a coach that is guaranteed to work and would actually come to Tech and I am all ears. Lots of old assistants have "returned home" to great success. Others have failed. This one seems like a lower risk option (pun intended?) with potential big payoff to me.

If we go this route, then why not Monken? Guy has proven himself at both GA Southern and Army.

I think he gets what it’s like at a place like GT (like the service academies), but brings more positivity and enthusiasm than what we currently have.

I can see it. I think the 3O does have an adverse effect on recruiting, but it's worth the tradeoff if the new HC is a good recruiter to compensate. It wouldn't take much to be a better draw than CPJ. His personality is the main impediment, IMO.

The main thing with the 3O is recruiting on the OL. A good OL and the 3O rolls big time. A mediocre one and it folds against all but the weakest defenses. The problem is that (maybe) the big money donors are through with the 3O. I think we may be getting ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

In practice, theory, fantasy, reality, propaganda we will have to distance ourselves from the TO in every possible way we can.

“potential devastating impact of switching from the option to a non-option offense”? The greatest potential for a devastating impact is to remain too closely associated with the TO.

Many will crap their pampers by saying NEVER to a ugag grad. I say, at this moment, for many reasons, that would be a plus for him IF TStan thinks he is qualified.

I wonder depending on his relationship with CPJ, if he would have some irrational hard feelings towards us for firing CPJ?

Lastly, what CPJ would think about the potential of this scenario should be at about 2,694 on the top 100 list of considerations for our next coach. Whenever that happens.

I could be on board for Monken as well. I don't honestly know enough about either of their systems to know if one has "evolved" the system more than the other. Anyone have an answer to that? If one has, that might also help soften the blow. I saw Army only passed a few times last week in their win over Miami(OH), but I believe their starting QB was out.

Honestly, for me, retention has been just as big a problem for CPJ as recruiting. Like Pastner always says, we should be aiming to "get old and stay old." While we have had good consistency at a-back and WR, we have had some extreme turnover at QB, BB, and OL, which I think is to blame for a lot of our issues. Some of that has been injuries, but some like Marshall and Jay Jones have not. If we have just the two of them, I think we may have two more wins this year.

Who cares what the big money boosters think? Where was their money going in the first place besides Ted Roof's pockets? In one summer the small money fundraiser did as much for GT football as the big money people have in a decade. Not that I agree/disagree with whether to move on from the TO, I just find the idea of GT boosters pulling their support hilarious when we are at the bottom of the totem pole in support staff and facilities.

That is the problem now if a player is not starting their 2nd year they are ready to move on, very few are willing to wait till their Junior year. Happens all over but with little depth it seems to hurt us the most. Have not looked this year but it seems we always have a young team.

Because we can’t recruit against other teams running a spread and going back to a pro style will set us back years. We are limited on who we can offer. Stay with the option and run out of the gun and or tweak it a little. We need to be unique in what we run!

You're right. Maybe we could be as good as Vanderbilt is while running from a shotgun based offense.
Or maybe as good as Louisville.
Oregon State looks great too.

For every high powered offense running the shotgun spread, there is a garbage team running it and looking bad while doing it. When we ran a pro style offense we still had trouble recruiting high caliber qbs. I don't really understand why we think switching is going to solve our issues, especially now when it is harder to recruit than it used to be.

So maybe the problem isn't exactly our offense but that we are missing key pieces that would help us be better with the offense we have. With JT, our offense was completely different, and our performance was different. We truly need a dual threat qb. Jaylend Ratliffe having a freak accident and Lucas Johnson getting a non contact injury in the offseason has truly hampered our ability to run AND PASS. TQM is a warrior, but it's hard to think he'd have beaten out Ratliffe for the QB position. So then to me it's about how do we make sure that we always have the right pieces to play with, even when injuries come up, or other bad luck strikes us.

I personally am at the point where I am fine with or without CPJ as our head coach. My concern with changing coaches is I do not believe our offense is the root of our issues. We fell behind almost every team in the ACC with regards to support staff, and if we do not begin investing now, it won't matter what coach we hire or offense we run.

I'm fine with any offense we can recruit to. If we invest in the staff necessary to get the job done, I am on board for anything.
