Million $$$$ Question:

Do you think GT will get better results with CPJ even if we our program gets more $$$?

Here's the thing some don't want to admit: $$$ will not change the players CPJ will be able to recruit. GT already recruits nationally, a few more $$$ in the recruiting budget will not all of a sudden change Johnny 4/5 star's mind about CPJ. Kids come to school primarily to play for a coach, academics, and because they want to play a certain style (and possibly because a school has a soft serve ice cream machine...but that's another story). HS kids know by now what they are getting with CPJ and GT. CPJ can no longer sell kids on "opening up the offense". He played that card already, and scrapped it halfway into 2013.

I was looking back on our recruiting. CPJ's best recruiting years was early in his tenure at GT. He recruited in the 40's. His message was new, and kids had 2008 and 2009 fresh on their minds. Our best year, better than even 2009, was 2014. We didn't do much to capitalize on that, IMO, because kids knew CPJ's style and the message got old.

If kids come to a school because of a coach, academics, and playing style...and the coach no longer inspires recruits, and recruits don't want to play a particular style...well, academics better be one heck of a calling card. Well, GT is an elite education, and it's not easy. Recruits know it's not easy, so the coach and playing style better make up for it. Sure, there might be a kid or 2 like Parker or JeT, but for the most part kids want to play another style.

More $$$ will not help unless we change one of the 3 things we mentioned...but seeing as how GT can't change the academic part of it, you can do the math from there.
I'm starting to think $$$ will not do anything if your talking about recruiting. I guess we could get other recruits from other places but they would still be 3 star players. If we want 4 stars or a 5 star player until Tech changes things ( Which they won't or can not ) it will stay this way.
I like CJP and I really hopes that CPJ decides that it's time for him to go after the season. I still think if he doesn't he will not be fired. Something is not right with this team it has to be the coaching staff or the players or I hope not both. College football is a business and if a business has problems you start at the top. Too many times the last few years we hear the same things we need to do a better job of coaching. Fine than do a better job but we are not seeing it being done. I can give anyone time but I want to see changes not the same thing the last few years. I give money to Tech but in no way am I a big donor so they would not listen me. I know most of you like our AD and I'm waiting to see , yes he can raise money but I'm not seeing that the new locker room has helped blocking. Do I really think a new coach would be better, no, but it now time to fine out and I hope I'm wrong and it would help. I just don't Tech gives a rats butt about football. Again I hope I'm wrong but don't think I am.

It would be wise of TStan not to talk to him. Guy may be a legitimate coach but TStan can't afford to bring in a guy who has some ?'s around him or his character. This next hire needs to be a home run that will rally (and not further split) our diminishing fan base.

I am a huge fan of Lane. He’s brilliant, can recruit and develop talent, and would create a wholly different and fun product for GT.

He’s childish a bit ... but even diehard UT fans said he was exciting.

He may be but I can't see Tech hiring him or for that matter him wanting to come here.

No thank you. I’d rather have Josh Heupel. He might could get us a top flight QB here even. If CPj was to get fired or quit I would hope whoever comes retains CNW though.

I agree , but this a problem you hire a new head coach sit down with me tell him ( the truth about what the Hill wants ) and tell him oh when you hire your assistant coaches you have to keep this coach. I know what I would do if I was him.

Lame Kiffin would have GT on NCAA probation in no time flat

Tennessee recently had an AD who lasted less than a year because he wanted to bring in Schiano (sp?). People came out of the woodwork against that (right or wrong is a whole nother debate) and the AD got canned. Kiffin may be a great coach (I don't know) but Todd needs to steer clear of any controversy here. He simply can't afford further division amongst the fans.

You're 100% correct(y) GT doesn't need the attention that Lame Kiffin would wind up bringing from the NCAA:rolleyes:

I like Heupel a lot but I want to see if he’s that good or is he getting by with a talented roster and a Heisman type QB that was already there? Not that I’m opposed to him but it’ll be interesting to see what he can do with out Milton at QB.

Josh Heuple in my opinion wouldn't leave UCF for GT
Probably not. He’s got it made at UCF. Quite honestly Tech isn’t that attractive of a job anymore. And it’s all to do with the Academic arm. I know people hate the 3O but the reason PJ was a good fit is because the service academies are similar to Tech in a way. Not defending our country way, but the unique challenges they both present to the kids. I have a hard time seeing someone coming from a FAU or UCF type place, where they can get kids to major in PE! This next hire screams of an up and comer that’s going to use us as a stepping stone or a Monken, Ken N type that can deal with the issues they’ll face at GT. I’m fine with the option. I’d like to see some variation to it though. Some shotgun or quick passes.

Folks - the program is dying from apathy. We can’t afford safe, conservative coaches. We need someone who can win and inject excitement back into it. If not Kiffin, who?

This is something we need to understand , and some don't believe it.

It feels like the final years of Hewitt. More than likely we do the GT thing and hire the Brian Gregory if college football to replace him...

Scott Satterfield would be a great hire for GT,he's a very promising head coach. There is the risk with him that if he turns GT around that he'll be hired away by bigger schools. If he turns GT around and winds up being hired by another school i say good luck to him because he will have left GT in a lot better shape than it was when he got here.

Unfortunately it’s true. Like I said. It’s because of the academic part. And we’re broke. I know we have talent all around us and ATL can sell it’s self but unless we can find someone that has a great scheme, we’re not competing with the schools around us.

Somehow, some way, for this offense to be everything it needs to be, we must have a TRUE dual threat QB. I thought Lucas might be that, but he is out. I don’t believe Graham or Oliver will be any better passers than TQM. With that said, even a good passer won’t be successful without some Div 1 weapons & decent pass protection.

Recruiting must improve and improve fast, and honesty, I am very pessimistic about that ever happening again, no matter the HC.

I'll leave the name of who we hire to the AD. I hope that Peterson and the athletic board will do the same. That's what the AD gets paid for.

I hope we don't hire another head coach with no P5 experience. Johnson had none when he came. Gailey had a short stint at Florida as an assistant (IIRC), but a long time before we hired him. None after that.

We need a young dynamic recruiter, which means an up and coming assistant at a P5 school. Dabo Swinnie was a position coach at Clemson when he was promoted. He was selling real estate in Alabama a few years before that. But he can recruit and deal with the media. The assistants do the coaching. Who else used that formula? Robert Lee Dodd.

My concern with LJ is the constant injuries and the fact he’s now behind 2 guys TO and JG next year. I worry can he hold up in this offense and how likely is it he transfers?
