There is so much wrong in this post I do not know where to begin.Let's stop putting Duke on a pedestal and let's stop dancing around the obvious: During CPJ's tenure, Duke has gotten better and we have not. We can try to blame the admin, etc but on gameday, Cutcliffe has outcoached CPJ time and again. Duke's players are not bigger, faster, nor better than ours. We're not comparing ourselves to Clemson here.
Duke's not an easy academic sell to recruits so the 'Recruiting' angle is lost. GA has more, better HS football players. Atlanta is a helluva better town than freaking Durham.
The excuses need to stop. An ***-beating of these jerks on Saturday would be very helpful in dispelling the myth that Duke is some sort of juggernaut. They're not - they just have a damn-good coach who plays in a freaking high-school stadium. OTOH, we have a better stadium but a high-school offense.

Do you think the expectations we have match our commitment over the last decade in spending? I am curious if you believe we have similar resources (staff, facilities, etc) to perennial 10+ win teams or if you don't think they have an effect on recruiting and our coaches' ability to teach and develop our young men?Make some more excuses about how great Duke's stadium is or how well-dressed their sideline staff is. Anything to NOT point the finger at the effect of 11 years of CPJ.
And if would make them practice against our offense they would take fewer games to have the defense gel against the other offenses they face.I think you have a point, to a point.
Duke has many more majors to offer, so the academic side is not the same as for a STEM school such as the Institute. I believe Duke has been able to recruit better players in their front 7 D than we have, and I think Cutcliffe and his coaches have done a good job with the players they have gotten.
If we had Duke's defense (their players) the past few years, we would have more wins, in my opinion.
If he (Klock) doesn't like CPJ, then why did he try to stay? The reason he's at NW is due to the Hill - he didn't get accepted into our MBA program.
I think to make college football fair, the NCAA should mandate that a team gets spotted, oh, say 1 point for every million dollars in spending disparity. That way, we would start the game ahead of UGa by something like 40-0, and against Duke by about 7-0.Why? Because of history? Times change. They are not the same Duke we made fun of in the 80’s and 90’s. Their administration made a definite an obvious financial commitment to improving the football program and making it respectable. Well they have exceeded that and gone beyond respectable. Their financial commitment exceeds ours.
So let’s stop with the high and mighty attitude. All that talk is in the past.
Never will be. Sociology majors probably don't even take tests because, you know, there are no wrong answer in Sociology...I think Puke has gotten better. I'm not sure what will happen when the rock finally gets turned over, however. I'm betting it's a UNC situation that hasn't been uncovered yet.
I've been in the New York / Boston corridor for over 20 years (finance / real estate) and I can tell you this is not true. We're in the same breath as all the schools you list but Duke which has an over-inflated reputation up here (Dukies are second only to Harvard grads in telling you where they went to school within 2 minutes of a conversation)..
As a Harvard grad, I object. Did I tell you I'm a Harvard grad yet?
I hope we win by 70 to silence all the Duke praise here. Jesus, we've gone from "OK, we can't hang with Clemson and the factories anymore" to now "We can't keep up with Duke"??? What next - "Wake is actually pretty goddamn good!!"??? I don't give a damn how much Puke spends on its staff - We shouldn't have to resort to excuses to beat 'em! Wallace Wade Stadium is a JOKE. Durham is a hellhole. Duke's got more nerds than we do and just as few attractive women.
God - CPJ has really done a great job of lowering expectations here. This acceptance of mediocrity is a sickness, a malaise that will be more difficult for the next HC to remove than anything related to the scheme itself. Spending more money on Sideline Staff won't remove the stench either. This is the attitude of too many of our fans now. CPJ or the next HC need to start whipping some *** NOW.

You are acting like a boob. The expectations are still to compete for and win championships. Duke is starting to do the same. Get a grip.
as a realistic tech fan I assume you're talking about people like me.Not amongst a too many of our fanbase. 8-win seasons aren't championship-competitor seasons, sorry, but plenty would be happy with 8 wins.
Actually, in the late '80s when Spurrier coached Duke, we did compare ourselves to them and UVA. You probably don't remember then.Don't move those goalposts, Midtown. We're not talking about perennial 10+ win teams of which There are only a few in America: Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St... that even the wannabes like UF, UT, USCe aren't keeping up with.
We're talking about DUKE. Prior to CPJ, we didn't compare ourselves to Duke. It's another reason why we were better off in 2008 than in 2018. Apparently we've now fallen behind DUKE in the ACC pecking order. Who's next? UVA? Wake?

1989, the whole conference was looking up to Duke and UVA in football. My freshman year was Ross' first. So yeah, I remember. I thought losing to Duke sucked then too. You probably didn't.
When did he first ask for the larger staff?Duke did the buy in stuff cpj has been asking for they have the third largest support and recruiting staff in the acc. If anything duke is a case study along with clemson that shows the formula for taking a program near its potential.
