Well, the trolls have to get real quiet right now. According to them he recruits worse than Gailey, yet just equalled the routine Gaily win total with two games left on the schedule. At worst, he outperforms Gaily by taking his "poor recruiting classes" and getting the same results, and at best, he turns in 11 win seasons and Orange Bowl appearances with these same lemented recruiting classes. Hard to argue he's earned another couple of years.

Um, at worst he won three games and missed a bowl. Also, the likely outcome, 7-5, is what got Gailey fired. Not sure why that would earn johnson a couple more years.

The question is what happens if we lose the next two games (which is at least a possibility) and wind up 7-6...

Gailey never beat Georgia and lost the ACC Championship to Wake Forest 9-6 with Calvin Johnson. That’s why he was fired.

Listen to the Todd Stansbury podcasts and you will understand.

He admits that program has monetarily fallen behind all of the other ACC schools and fixing that is how he thinks we will get better. From everything he has said, he likes what CPJ brings to the table. Gailey coached in a different era before kids needed to actually show they were making degree progress and while we were not being out spent by the majority of ACC teams, and he still under performed.

He's obviously safe this year, but the next two weeks will determine how much of a leash he has next year. There's very high hopes for next year so if we flop CPJ might not make it if we finish this year 7-6.

His big issue is the 2020 schedule looks rough right now. Having UCF/ND/Georgia as your OOC schedule while having at Syracuse as the crossover game will really make GT have to step up to have a great year.

7-5 was pretty much CG's ceiling.....along with NEVER beating the mutts. THAT is what got him fired.

7-5 was also his floor.

And it should have have gotten him fired. Gailey was mediocrity incarnate and deserved to be canned. 7-5 shouldn't be something you puff out your chest and act like it solidifies the coach. Unfortunately, over the last 6 years, the same time period that Gailey was here, Johnson has an average record of 7-5.3. If the only reason we're keeping Johnson is he beats the mutts once every 4 years then people need to get over their little brother syndrome.

7-5 in the current ACC >>>> 7-5 in the ACC in Chan's day and it's not even close. The 2015 flop featured a schedule where only 1 ACC team wasn't bowl eligible. ND was 10-3, UNC was 11-3, Clemson played for a national title, FSU hadn't lost in the regular season in almost 3 years and won a title two years before with a Heisman winner. We were hit with injuries like crazy and we were in almost every game except Miami and Clemson. The ACC (+Notre Dame) is big boy football most years now, it was a complete joke in Chan's day and legitimately in danger of dissolving during realignment.

You cannot predict what teams will be like in another couple of years. Cuse could return to its normal self as could UCF if they have a coaching change. We have beat the mutts when we should not have, and lost to them when we should have won.
