I’m just glad Kirby Smart runs a tight ship over there. Can you imagine how bad it would be if he didn’t.

A mutt friend of mine finally admitted today that it's getting embarrassing.

Like many he has said the whole "boys will be boys" thing and "just cause it's georgia we get the press because we're #1". But I love near GA Sou... no players arrested for speeding. I'm a close follower of GT and no player arrested. I follow the teams we play and only georgia has player(S!) arrested for speeding.

Now Athens-Clarke County (ACC 😉) isn't helping their cause by only having bonds where you get change from a $50 bill.

What's the worst that can happe....oh. yeah I remember that now.

20 arrests since the fatality, and the only time Kirby Smart has lifted a finger to do anything about it is when he wrings his hands.
I wonder, in light of his malfeasance, if someone is God forbid badly injured or killed, if the Ugag athletic department could be in for a major lawsuit for neglecting their duty of institutional control?

"Because we continue to have guys make poor decisions, you know? It’s very unfortunate. I know that our staff, myself, continue to drive home the sensitive nature of it. It’s certainly a deadly speed when you’re talking about the speed that he was traveling at. You want kids to grow up. You want to treat them like your own kids. You want them to grow up and make good decisions and learn from others’ mistakes. Yeah, we have guys share and we obviously continue to talk to them, but it hasn’t stopped them. So find a way to do it."

More hand wringing. I'll tell you what happened to me when I got a reckless driving ticket at 16 - my dad took my keys away for nine months which is probably why I was able to survive my teens.
I know Kirby can't take their keys, but he can sure take away their footballing. Kirby sez, "find a way to do it", but he never does. Is he talking to himself?

Yeah, right. How do you think Kirby would react if one of his own kids was arrested for doing 106 mph in a 65 mph zone? How would he react if one of his own kids was killed or crippled in a late-night street-racing incident?

Edit: @bobongo: GMTA

There was a home game back in the '80's where everyone was handed a GT kazoo upon entering the stadium. Everyone would play it on the kickoffs and it did sound like a giant bee hive. They went for a Guinness record at halftime for most people playing a kazoo at once. I think the record was set, but then some other school broke it within a year.

Still have mine!

I’ve got a mutt acquaintance and we were talking about the speeding violations over there. Basically he thinks they can’t help themselves because of all the “open rural roads” around Athens. Just too tempting to get out there and see what this Charger or whatever will really do. Boys will be boys, you know.
It’s going to take another tragedy before this is taken truly seriously.

It won’t happen then unless UGA is losing to GT or UF by that time.

Another empty excuse. They're not doing it on open, rural roads. They're doing it in Athens, on city streets. The fatalities happened about a mile from where I live, and the latest incident was about two miles away. Most of the citations have been made by the Athens P.D.

Yep. And "boys will be boys" everywhere. So why isn't every school having to deal with this?

Aren’t Athens and Clarke County one and the same now?

Exactly this. That gruesome scene of a car wrapped around a tree was in someone’s yard not on some farm road.

Photos from that scene should be emailed daily to the mutt athletic department and hc smart to let them know that they are to blame if this happens again.
I already sent them an email telling them if they didn't care about the safety of the populace, maybe they would give some consideration to their finances because they're going to get their arses sued clean off for their chronic neglect of this situation.

Thank you for doing that. That was responsible citizenship.

My fear is that they are so flush with money, fixers and lawyers, as well as having political pull in Athens and in the state, that they don’t worry too much about the repercussions to their program.

But, my god, if uga could negatively recruit against us for years with a calculus book, don’t know why we couldn’t negatively recruit against them by talking to parents about their child’s safety at uga.
