Getting back to baseball, I admittedly didn't get a chance to watch the game but from reading the play-by-play it looks like the two errors committed by Curry were on bunt plays. Were they difficult plays? Where was the ball bunted and fielded?

One was a throw away on a pickoff at first. Wide throw on a quick throw over let the runner go first to third. The other on the bunt was not routine/easy, but should have been made. To the left of the mound, X fielded it okay, but IIRC, his throw was wide pulling the fielder off the base.

It occurs to me, that similar to our basketball team, our margin of error (at least in ACC play) will be small, if our pitching does not improve. Any error in the field or failure to produce in a clutch situ at the plate will likely be magnified. So, although the general case of a small margin of error applies, the two teams situations could not be further apart somehow. While the hoops team had (has) to battle to overcome in all phases, our baseball team has one of the more prolific offenses in the league to this point. To be able to say that the teams are the same in one regard seems so strange with them being so different In the other

Right I remember reading that now. Curry was a highly ranked SS coming out so I was curious as to how difficult the plays might have been. Personally, I think those errors are the difference probably the difference in this game.

I think that depends on the error and when it happens. Extra outs are never a good thing but not all errors are created equally. I'm not a basketball guy so I can't relate to the analogy but I think we're much better relative to the other teams in our conference in baseball than in basketball as I understand it.

I agree with the last statement, that's why it is so weird to feel like in the first inning w/ Miami led off w a triple, it was critical, or in the second inning when we misplayed a squeeze play that it was going to be a key play in the game. On paper it seems like we should have enough talent to overcome some of these, but when they happen, to me it feels like each one is critical.

Concerning errors, while what you say is true, you (often) don't know which mistakes are "critical" until you look back on them. I guess my point was when our pitching staff is not able to consistently pitch around mistakes, then by definition, the mistakes get magnified.

Yea this is something that doesn't get acknowledged enough. The defense can really pick up a pitcher but bad defensive plays happen. They suck but they happen. The pitcher has got to pick up his fielders (or himself in this case) from time to time. The game where our CF dropped the ball and we gave up a bunch of runs last year comes to mind. Everyone pounced on the CF but I was sitting here going "that's no excuse for the pitcher to give up 4 runsafter the fact when we only needed an out" or whatever it was. Just couldn't do it yesterday. We'll see how it goes over the course of the season.

The margin of error is actually thin OR it feels like it's thin. Perception is reality. For sustained success (over time), baseball is all about the execution on the little things. Move a guy over; big 2 strike hit; make the difficult throw on a bunt; stay ahead in counts; make ALL routine plays.

I believe this Ga Tech team is capable of doing these things. I agree the margin of error feels slim.

We are playing very sloppy. It is very discouraging year after year seeing our pitchers have so much control issues as well as it seems their velocity never really rises during their years here...in fact their velo seems to drop more often than not.

GT ahead 7-5 going to B11. Gawd we need this one. Hate to say it this early in the season, but this can define the season.

Dulaney to come in and try to win it. Ryan had 4 good innings.

Update: Dulaney strikes out first batter.

Update: Another strikeout. Then hits batter ........

Final update: Fly out.

Down 1-4 going into 7th and we pulled it out. 401 pitches. 4:15 long game. Wow.

7-5 good guys. I have to say after watching dulaney pitch. I'm still not sure why he isn't one of our weekend starters. He's got good stuff and pitched pretty well in a lot of innings last year
