Update from the other forum.........
Wow! The response in this thread is pretty remarkable. Big thanks to bleedgold for getting this thread started! Some updates and clarifications about what's going on:
- The Georgia Tech Band Alumni Association (GTBAA) is the group doing the fundraising. The organization was made aware of a need and decided to do its best to help fill it.
- The Band was going on this trip and the money was going to be found in some way, shape, or form. Anything GTBAA raises in excess of what is needed for the Ireland trip will go directly to the Yellow Jacket Marching Band for them to use over the course of this season for anything that is needed (equipment repair/replacement, food, water, away game travel, something awesome that will improve the GAMEDAY experience, etc.)
-Over the weekend the needle moved from under 40% of the goal to over 50% of the goal through online donations alone! This does not include what came in on Monday and Tuesday of this week. The lag in the mail cycle won't allow for mailed check totals to be counted until probably a week after we end the campaign on 8/5.
GTBAA and the GT Band are extremely grateful for all of the gifts (no matter how great or small) from everybody in the Georgia Tech Family. THANK YOU to everybody who has donated so far!
The campaign has been going since April. I believe there was a thread here a couple of months ago on this. GTBAA, the organization behind this effort, is making its last sprint to the finish. It has nothing to do with GT, Athletics, or anybody's lack of planning. This is a nice thing an alumni group is doing to support the active kids in the organization they dedicated their time, blood, sweat, and tears to during their time at Tech. All of the donations from Hivers and the Tech Family that had nothing to do with the Band, were given out of the kindness of the individuals' hearts and it is most certainly appreciated by GTBAA and the active Band!
