Shoutout to Tatum and Burrell both making some good plays on D. I think GSU is probably better than people expected and has a number of advantages specifically against Tech, having multiple former players and coaches on their sideline, having gamefilm vs none for us, and being probably the biggest opportunity of their season. On top of that we played poorly and had the refs against us, and yet we still won handily. Probably a better outcome than a 60-0 type game if we are being honest, it gave us a lot to work on that wouldn't be obvious in a total blowout.

The only thing I was somewhat disappointed in was that we didn't pull Haynes King earlier - he should have been out of the game already when he took that targeting shot to the back of the head, that was an unnecessary risk and I would have like to see Pyron get some actual playing time and not just a few plays in the final minutes to run out the clock.
I’m
Watching the replay and just saw the long run by King that got called back on the hold Blackburn got called for. Looked like he just destroyed that guy to me. I didn’t see a hold.

we need a backup running back. Haynes is running the ball way too much. If he goes out, we really don't have anyone behind him.
Not sure what you are talking about. First of all Haynes only had 17 carries. That is not a very large number for a starting running back on a team that likes to run the ball. And the backups who have played so far have looked very good. Both Alexander and Carrie have been very productive. Hopefully Alexander's shoulder isn't too serious but even if it is I like the way Carrie looked. And based on what I have seen and heard we have some additional talent in that room that can produce when given the opportunity.

GT needs a healthy Haynes. Is is a very good back in our system. If Cooley and Alexander are out this week with Haynes dinged up that is a real concern.

That was one of the most lopsided referring I have ever witnessed!!! Those refs should be fired! It wasn't even that they were bad refs, it was clearly all targeted against Tech.

There was all the blatant unbalanced holding penalties. But the one play that sealed the fix from the refs was where Haynes had a blatant facemask followed by a clear as day targeting penalty and nothing was thrown!
These were SEC refs and given that the rest of the SEC had games this week, we probably ended up with their worst rated crew working our game.

I haven't read the whole thread - life is short - so I'm sure I'll cover what some other fonts have already said. I'll keep it short.

I'm sitting there with my son and he's lamenting how GSU was moving the ball on Tech. I looked over at him and said, "What's the score? They're doing ok between the 20s, but they aren't scoring." And that, sports fans, is the only thing that counts. It would be nice if Tech could hold decent teams - and GSU has a team that will probably win 7 games - to very little yards gained. But … in the long run of the game that is immaterial. GSU had over 300 yards total offense and scored 12 points. Part of that was stubbornness from their coaches, but that was their choice and they paid for it. It's early days, but it looks like Santucci has made it clear to the D that their main job is to stop other teams from scoring. Good, say I.

It was a typical second game after playing well in the initial contest. Getting the same level of performance is almost impossible and it appears to be genetic since it happens to every team. Tech had way too many penalties. A hold cost us a TD by King on an absolutely great run (he's a lot faster then that long gait of his indicates, btw). We had a substitution penalty - that should never happen - take away an INT. I'm sure the coaches expected this; it almost always happens. I'm also sure they domn't like it one bit and will be working on it.

And the O responsed, especially in the second half. Once we got to 28 I told my son the game was over. It took a decision to get off the floor and play well that did it, however. This is one of the things that Tech often couldn't so in games like this; the other team would narrow the lead at the start of the second and the game would be a dogfight. Not this year, apparently. And 499 yards of O evenly divided was nice. We took the game and they didn't give it up easily.

I was concerned when Chad Alexander went out, but young master Carrie shows that the RB room is actually pretty deep. He played very well in his time open the field. I also liked it that Pyron got to play. Too bad that we had decided to just run out the clock because he didn't get a chance to throw the ball. But he's a load running. Different from King in that he isn't as cute, but give him straight path and he'll run with it. I've always liked that.

Well, like I said above, a typical second game and the kind of game Tech often would contrive to lose. Not this year, I think.

Pretty sure the broadcast made this exact point last night. Basically said, as you're alluding to, that our offense is a variation of the option.

I loved CPJ and I love what we're doing now. But I dont understand why folks don't see what we're currently doing as gimmicky like they did with CPJ's stuff.
Simple. The blocking is not as gimmicked and therefore does not limit good recruiting on defense, which is mandatory to play P4 football at the highest level.

I like we threw to Hawes so teams don't key on him always being a lead blocker. However it seems you can follow his motion to tell which way the ball is gonna go.

The reverse to Singleton was nasty. Line goes left, he goes right with two big escorts pulling and motoring downfield.

I wonder if team had time to recover. They went straight to the weight room after a long flight back from Dublin.
