One factor that is being overlooked is the heat and humidity the guys had to play in last night. I noticed that Coach Key, who did not play a down, was actually soaking in perspiration in the postgame interviews. Sweat was actually dripping from his hat. This Georgia heat is brutal and has killed many a man. Add to it that these guys are huge and wearing a ton of equipment including a helmet that holds the heat in even more than a person who has no head covering on, and you are talking about an almost unbearable situation. I am always amazed how well these young men bear up under these almost inhumane conditions.

Fatigue makes cowards of us all, so when you see imperfection, penalties and other mistakes, just remember, it's hard to perform when the heat is on. On to the nice, air-conditioned Carrier Dome! To hell with Syracuse.

Go Jackets!

I was listening to the radio broadcast yesterday, and they were talking several times how we had defensive players out due to cramps. Sounds like the heat was really getting to the players

Not going to get in a long argument but the 1st half calls on our TEs #85 & 85 were good calls as the defender got off our defenders and our TEs arms were fully extended while still holding the defender’s jerseys. That will get called nearly every time.

The good news is we scored TDs after the 2 TE holds and the Blackburn hold which came one play before the hold on #85.
well, you saw the one that called back the TD a whole lot differently. You don't have to argue about, but you sure are dug in, which is fine.

Not how many others saw it tho.

I rewached the game to specifically review the hold calls. All of them were good blocks. All of them. The hands were on the interior jersey when either the defender fell down or turned around, and thr blocker let go and just pushed the defender down. That is completely legal if they engage the block face to face. The first TD that was called back on a "hold" by 86 was completely BS. He did not even grab any jersey. Just horrible officiating
OTOH, they had a long run around end, the one where Efford made the long run to make a play, their WR was blocking a GT DB -well. The play passed by and GT DB turned to the play and the State WR gave him a parting shove straight from behind. Clip. Had he continued to engage the block with the GT player as he turned, no clip. But they disengaged briefly as he turned and he then shoved him right between the numbers. It was a close call, to be sure, but with all the ticky-tack holds on GT, that one should have been called. Just be consistent.

Easy to do, isn't it? When you are calling holding, that is. I think this is because the rules on it are so open to ref discretion. Today, you sometimes find refs calling like they did last night. Then you find refs who call like they did in Dublin: it's a hold if you essentially tackle the guy. Btw, it's the same with face masking; the turn of King's head on contact would have and did get a flag in Dublin. But not last night.

I haven't anyone bashing him here of late.

Feeling "smug" as some sort of CPJ validation because some ex-GT QB, who hates GT, called one or two of Buster's plays a play with 3 options, is sorta silly.

CPJ had his time here, and he was honored for it, but it was awhile ago now.
Well stated. Guys who keep comparing CPJ's offense to Faulkner's are clueless.
We played 2 TE's much of the night after a decade of not even having one on the team. It's funny to me. :)

Boyd is a Tight End, however we run plays where he is getting very short catches while on the move which are very similar to running sweeps. He is becoming a valuable player this season. Solid blocked downfield a well.
When Brett Seither went down for the season, I was worried that created a big gap in the line. He is a stable veteran that was instrumental in the offense last year.

Boyd and Hawes have been scary good and have allayed my worries about the tight end.

Don't know if Seither will return next year but the more the merrier.

It's ok that we disagree. And I respect your viewpoint.

I had a major issue with the lack of a delay to have that hit on King 'reviewed'. I know they can't officially do that but I recall in other games, refs will see that type of thing happen and will give some grace to the booth to get their ducks in a row.

There was also a moment when GS substituted on offense and we weren't allowed to do the same. Instead, they flagged us for substitution infraction. I feel they compounded their error by penalizing us.
The hit on the back of King’s helmet was a clear Targeting penalty. Worked out being a no call as Boyd scored on the next play. Karma?

If it is the play I think you are talking about, the wide receiver actually grabs the DB as he runs by. That is a hold.

If the GSU recievers, especially #2, could catch at all...it would have been a very scary situation... we could not cover him and he dropped 2 touchdowns
The whole problem I have with doing this is that it ignores that there's a ton of "ifs" that apply the other way. And it ignores that IF their WRs would have caught the first one that went through their hands that EVERYTHING else would have gone exactly the same way. It just doesn't work that way.

Well, ok. I see you expect me to remember what I promised at the start of the post. I'm 78, dude. Sometimes things slip.
I understand and my wife makes me get a mop to clean it up.

oh, asking you another question do this 8 pm start kill you the next day? when I was young in my 40's 50's and 60's I loved the late starts but now after the game I lay in the bed and keep thinking about the game and can't sleep.
I remember being young and after the game rolling over to my wife and ......... And there is my problem I need one of those little blue pills and roll oer to her. ( question can you take one of those pills if you had say only 12 beers)

GSU had game film on us. They had former coaches and players who know us. They weren’t coming off a game in another country. It was a classic trap game scenario. We came in on a three game losing streak to G5 opponents. They had a lot of things going for them. Despite all of this, we won the game outright and beat the spread. This isn’t to say we were perfect, but I do think there’s quite a bit of context to help this sloppy game feel much better. Not to mention the gap between G5 and P4 teams has gotten much smaller over the years( we were going through some dark years, but we weren’t the only ones losing to G5 teams the last few years). The days of these kinds of teams being a simple tune up game are over. It’s a game we should have won and we did. That’s progress in my book.

I had the same thought. Playing in Ireland the weather was perfect. Like crisp clean air in the 60s.

I wasn’t at the game last night, but it looked hot and humid. Brent flinging sweat from his hat in the presser was classic OL dude and really drove the point home.

I don’t think Luginbill likes Tech, but that’s OK. I don’t like him! I took the opportunity to explain to my son how Bill Lewis brought in Luginbill over Donnie Davis and it ruined us for 4 years.
You are welcome to think he doesn't like Tech and maybe you're right (he sure has gotten a lot of hate over the years from GT fans) but last Sunday he was extremely complimentary of our team in every way. He and Barrett Sallee (sp?) talked about how our team just looks different than previous years in terms of size and athleticism. They gushed about our game plan and how we beat FSU and not once made it about FSU giving away the game. I tend to feel like we haven't given him and others in the college football world much to talk about in the grand scheme of things and now that we are he's doing it.

As for his playing time here I put that all on the coach.

I like we threw to Hawes so teams don't key on him always being a lead blocker. However it seems you can follow his motion to tell which way the ball is gonna go.

The reverse to Singleton was nasty. Line goes left, he goes right with two big escorts pulling and motoring downfield.

I wonder if team had time to recover. They went straight to the weight room after a long flight back from Dublin.
I think that four of our TEs got catches in the game, too. Keeps teams from being able to focus on our TEs just as blockers!!!
