Well, we did fumble going in. Did anybody expect him to ignore that fact. I sure didn't hear him say that Qua fumbled it. If he had said that, even though it was obvious to all whom he meant, then that would have been throwing him under the bus. You want to know someone who did throw a player under the bus? George O'Leary did to Jerry Mays, calling him out by name in a public forum.
You guys always seem to rationalise stuff to make CPJ look good in every situation. Its actually quite funny

There is a huge difference between the coaches saying a specific comment about the players and an informed (at best, but often otherwise) fan calling out players.

That said, I don't actually have a problem either way (Coach or Fan) saying you have to care enough to not fumble.

We all know who he was talking about
SO??? What was he supposed to do? Just totally ignore the fact that someone fumbled the ball? You throw someone under the bus when you call them out by name. Just like there's a big difference between you posting "You guys always seem to rationalise stuff to make CPJ look good in every situation," and @Supersizethatorder-mutt always seems to rationalize (note the correct spelling here) to make CPJ look good in every situation. That was just an example, but it would indicate that you have more class (hmmm) than to call anyone out by name, hence throwing me under your bus, but Johnson by doing the same has no class in your opinion. Now THAT double standard on your part is what is quite is actually quite funny.

Siting behind the tubbas (sic) in se corner I was an eye witness. Now I was pretty close to heat stroke in the Tampa heat .

It looked like qua caught ball and was trying to get it tucked and prepare for a hit. It was a well defensed play (unlike gt defense the defenders were right on him)

Perhaps coach could have said it differently --
qua had a great game, lots of yards running, lots of yards receiving, and we all know he would trade any if his plays to get that fumble back. The UFC guys made a great play but we have got to protect the ball. Qua is a solid player and I trust him with the fans on the line.

At least we aren't blaming fhe Adidas uniforms being slippery - bring back russell. Oh usf has addias

I think that “throwing someone under the bus” is revealing someone that did something that would be viewed unfavorably. Everyone that watched the game knows that Qua fumbled the ball so nobody got thrown under the bus. No surprises here. Everyone makes mistakes. What I will always remember Qua for is giving us the go ahead against the mutts in 2016. I think most fans fall into that camp.

He said a 5th year senior didn't care enough to hold on to the ball. It's a fact that he threw Qua under the bus. He messed up on this one sorry.

Like @GT_05 said, Everyone knows that Qua fumbled, and that he is a 5th year senior. Coach didn't say a damn thing that everyone didn't already know. Look, you don't like CPJ; we get that. But don't make up scenarios to fit your agenda. CPJ never threw anybody under the bus; he just stated, without using any names, the obvious.

You'll have to let it go. Some will never admit CPJ did any wrong. Like they're married to the guy, it's weird. I like him as a coach most of the time, but if you say anything negative about him some think you're not a fan or hate the coach. Sometimes there is no grey area available on this board or room for true discussion/banter (a lot of times there is great discussion and different POV), but there are some die hard CPJ guys, and he will never do any wrong in their eyes.

I could care less about political correctness. I like a coach that says what he thinks. I realize that will make some people uncomfortable, but I am ok with it, and I believe it is actually a very good fit for the Institute.

With PJ, very seldom will there be any "hidden agendas" or mind games. He felt that the player, in this case, Qua, did not protect the ball as he should have, so he said it.

In this country, snow flakes abound.

I don't like everything about our Coach, but his lack of political correctness is not one of those things.

It's not about political correctness. It's about impact on recruiting the image Johnson puts out doesn't help our recruiting.

Can we all step back and take a breath for a minute? It seems we may simply have a semantics problem here. When someone says a coach "throws a kid under the bus," I take that to mean the coach blamed the player for something that was not his fault and/or unfairly blamed the kid to cover for the coach's own mistake. I think that is how most people understand the phrase, but maybe not?

Here, CPJ made a statement that a player screwed up on a play that was at an important juncture in the game. I don't think anyone is saying that CPJ blamed the whole game on the kid, that CPJ said anything that wasn't true, or that the fumble was somehow actually CPJ's fault because he put the kid in a bad position with the play call or failed to coach him properly on how to hang onto the ball.

So, did he criticize a kid? Yes, absolutely (though without calling him out by name). Did he "throw the kid under the bus?" I would say not.

That said, if your definition of "throw a kid under the bus" is "to make any criticism of a play made by a player during the game no matter how justified" then, yes, CPJ's comment would fit that description.

Can we let this one drop now?

Actually that has nothing to do with political correctness which is just a convenient scratching post for a POV here.

That is fine, and I understand that opinion. GT has always had trouble recruiting, and it always will. I don't believe PJ"s personality impacts it anymore than the system he runs. But, I do believe there are some kids who probably should not attempt GT. If kids are "offended", then so be it. They probably would not like attending GT, because when I was there, if I was easily offended, I would not have gotten out with a degree.

I didn't ask him if it would be ok to share this, but I doubt he will mind. If you haven't already read this post on the "Juanyeh Thomas" thread, then please read it now. It speaks volumes for what kind of coach we have in CPJ. In addition to this post, one of the responders posted that CPJ had let a kid on the team go home for a funeral this past week. Another example of pure CLASS !!! Anyway, here is the orignal post I mentioned......

Just for the record I want you guys to know how I feel about Tech.

My step son is a functioning autistic 15 year old. When I say functioning I mean he appears to just be shy but for him the world is moving by very fast. He gets picked on for being “different”. When I met my wife he was in a shell. He never had any experience with any football at all. It took a long time to get him out in the yard just to throw the ball. We worked every afternoon to show him he could do it. Then one day he asked me if I thought he could play middle school ball. I said “hell yes”. I told him he had to talk to the middle school coach to show me and the coach he really wanted to do it. He actually did that, on his own which took a tremendous amount of strength on his part. Then he started worrying about how he would get along with his teammates on the field and in the locker room. In an effort comfort him I turned to Ga Tech. I didn’t know anyone on the team - nobody ! But I sent an email to coach Roof and explained what I was trying to do for my step son. Within 2 weeks Coach Johnson, Coach Roof and Coach Lutz begin to contact me and or arrange a visit. Within 3 weeks my step son, his mother and I were shaking hands with the entire staff. My step son was escorted to the equipment room wher he was put in “shells” and handed a ball. We were taken to the film rooms, the Press room and locker room. We were then put in a gator and driven all over campus. The aquatic center the education buildings and finally to practice. When we stepped onto the practice field EVERY COACH lined up to introduce themselves — to my step son. My step son shook CPJs hand as he was personally welcomed by the coach. He was allowed to hit the tackling dummies, run the indoor field, interact with the players ( as they could). We were made to feel like we were at practice with OUR team. He was given Gatorade, a football ( to take home) and his own personal Tech ID. The entire time he was beaming from ear to ear, his mother crying as she watched her son open up to strangers. I was beaming with pride the entire time. When we were done we were driven to our car as the players walked the “tech walk “ behind us as they returned to the locker room. Techs sports social media director personally interacted with my step son giving him the info he needed to follow Tech football and Tech in general.

All the way home he talked and talked about Tech, Football yes but more importantly computer engineering AT TECH !

The next day my step son ran onto the football field in the 4th quarter where he got in on 4 plays and one tackle, not as a scrub or back up in a run away game but as a player and teammate ! He finished the season without any concerns, he found that he could fit in and that he could be accepted by others. He has now moved on from football, why ? Because he is taking college prep classes and has visted Emory computer camp - because one day “he is going to go to TECH and be an Engineer”. Why ? Because “there is no other school that he can go to that’s even worth it”.

Because of Ga Tech and the very welcoming attitude EVERYONE showed my step son, my step son has a goal. He aspires to greatness “ like you can get at Tech”. And perhaps most importantly he believes he can do anything he wants to now. Because of GA TECH he has a dream that HE believes he can reach !

I was a Tech supporter long ago but for my own reasons, today I am nothing but a Tech guy because I too believe there is no better place I see Tech as the sole reason my step son thrives with self confidence now. He will never play high school ball much less College but he damn will go to Tech and be a very special man and he will always think back to his experience with the football team.

Never ever think I am degrading Tech, never ever think I think the student athletes are stupid or incompetent because like my step son I will always hold Tech, CPJ, ROOF, LUTZ and everyone else in the very highest esteem. I will never ever fail to believe or support. It is from my dedication and love that I will always expect the very highest standards of any Tech athlete and I hold anyone around to that notice. I’m a Yellow Jacket heart and head and always will be !!

Said Qua didn't care enough

I believe he said that Qua "didn't love the ball enough", as in holding it like you'll never let it go. I've heard coaches coach skill players with that term to teach them how to hold the ball for ages. If he'd said that Qua got careless holding the ball in a game-critical situation (which he said in coachspeak as "didn't love the ball enough"), then we wouldn't be having this discussion.
