What I’m asking though is how? Schollys are year to year, right?
Is it because Fields has already signed his scholly papers for the ‘19 season and he needs Kirby to say - it’s OK for you to break our “contract?”
I’ve never understood where the power of the coach in that regard comes from if schollys are always truly year to year.
Coaches cannot fully prevent athletes like Lunt from transferring to any university they want. But if a coach does not grant an athlete a release, the player must forfeit any scholarship opportunity, pay his own way to the new university and sit out the next season.
It is also important to note that the agreement encompasses a full academic year and not only the athletic season.
You made me do work so I'm giving you major side-eye .
In reality, I wondered myself so, anyways, here's a helpful article I found.

May be dated but gives some decent insight.
So perhaps it's in the granting of the release? It also reads as if there is some tie between the school and the student in addition to the NLI. That's the piece I'm still stuck on understanding.

Maybe that's why they need the release ... which the coach can hang over their heads?
Thanks for raising more questions.
But can he throw? Not Deshaun Watson/Trevor Lawrence (BTW, services ranking Fields ahead of Lawrence was ridiculous), but Fields would easily be the most physically talented QB we've recruited since....Donnie Davis?
Well that didn't age well.Just so this thread doesn't go on forever, I know one of his relatives and he is not transferring.
Is he really that good?
Well, Fields is from Kennesaw, just up the road from GT. He can transfer to GT if Coach Collins wants him.
One question regarding Fields, however: Can he cut it academically?
We will see what happens soon enough, I guess.
Google can be your friendDid we recruit him out of high school?
You’re right. He hasn’t picked the school. It's not official he is transferring yet.
Considering he was recruited by Yale, Harvard, northwestern and other solid schools, I don’t see academics being a problem. One question regarding Fields, however: Can he cut it academically?
we blocked him and he appealed and we were overruled. We blocked Quincy so he had to sit out longer, if I remember correctly...
Dude come on. You’re making yourself look stupid.
