Give his assistants the credit if you want, but you have to give that staff credit for some great coaching and putting together a true team. Only Jack and Bynum even turned into role players in the NBA. We had some nice college players, but that is likely one of the least NBA-talented teams to make the finals in the last 20 years. And we got to the finals without Elder for half the tournament. Man I loved that team!
Ok the assistants and whoever recruited these guys the most. That was a really well rounded team. Everybody had a defined role and they performed well in that role. We need to get back to that type of recruiting. We don't need players who can do everything just OK. I'd rather have specialists all over the floor And on the bench

Thats absurd.. As much as he left a dumpster fire, he took us to the pinnacle of the college basketball world.

Say what you will about him or his coaching abilities, but he deserves acknowledgement for taking GT to the championship game..

No other coach in our basketball history can say that.

All of this. People gotta stop trying so hard to discredit the dude.

You don't have to like him but to totally give all the credit to the assistants, players, random fans, ball boys, managers, cheerleaders, on and on and on before giving credit to the head coach is silly.

FWIW if the 2004 team had won the Natl Championship team it would have been only the 2nd team to win one without a McD AA on the team (since the McD team started in the 70's). The one club to accomplish that - Maryland.
The 2004 team was fun to watch. Great group of guys. Everyone understood their roles and played them well. It was a really hard working bunch of kids that all worked to improve their games (players can only get better if they want to get better and are willing to put in the effort to do so). Jack improved tremendously from his FR to SO year with alot of help from Warren. Both his decision making and his shooting improved by huge margins as a SO. That is also the year that things clicked for Luke (about 6 weeks into the season) - that made an amazing difference,

Pastner, Miller and White all earned close victories last night.

Not sure what everyone watched but I watched Memphis (can't find LATECH on my roku), and again, I am not a fan of Pastner. It just looks like Rucker park out there to me, all one on one and relying on individual ability on offense and without Nichols and Vandy xfer Johnson they would have easily lost even with all that talent.

This has been my view of Pastner's teams for a while. He certainly has the talent to let them play most of the time, but the tournament eventually matches them against a team with the same of better talent. And, a coach who actually does his job. Pastner is not on my list at all.

And, just like that, we're back in sync. :D Yeah, Pastner is like bizarro-Calipari to me. Many assume Calipari is all talent/recruiting but he actually is a good coach under all that. I think Pastner is mostly a recruiter and is a deficient coach.

The Memphis/Uconn game was on regular ESPN after the Indiana/Purdue game, I thought. I turned it on for about 3 minutes, saw a bunch of bumbling plays, a solid bucket by Shaq Goodwin, more bumbling, turned it off, remembered I want nothing to do with Pastner.

Meanwhile, Coaching Changes bringing some heat today on tweets & retweets:

George Mason gets no sympathy from me. Anybody who hires someone that another school paid 6 million to go away deserves what they got. In fact, I think they should pay us for the insult.

While I certainly enjoy some of the comments on that site - as far as having real information on coaching searches I have a feeling this may be largely someone in their basement making tweets with little real legit info.

One thing I like about Mack. He recruits good guards and seems to know what to do with them. As Calhoun said on the broadcast this week, if the Xavier-Cincy game is at a pace in the 50's, then Cincy will be happy, if it is closer to 70 then Xavier will be happy. Xavier definately wanted to play faster than Cincy.
Xavier definately had better guards and considering Semaj Christon is in the NBA and Dez Wells is at MD, that says something since the starting guards they have were certainly not recuirted to be the starters early in their careers.

I often think the same thing.
I also think its hilarious Travis Ford is a hero in Stillwater right now (i live in OKC) and before the season he was supposedly (unfairly so IMHO) on thin ice. They have become one of my favorite teams to watch on saturdays

Maybe I have a bit more respect him than Red. But not much. I think he's a pretty knowledgeable fan who trolls twitter and retweets what he thinks is relevant. Quite often when he originates something, a reply quickly comes back with an "Oh yeah?" comment.

I 100% agree with this. It's much more for entertainment purposes.

Probably because almost every one of their games is on ESPN. I too enjoy watching the Cowboys play some basketball.
