Avenatti is certainly a natural fit with the group running in the Dem primary. It's probably a fundraising stunt to kick off his campaign.

I think this is my fav tweet so far.

FWIW, I have no doubt that Nike is paying players just like Adidas was - probably more so as they are a bigger company in college basketball. The only reason it is Adidas being targeted by the Feds is because that happened to be who the guys they got the original tip on happened to work for.

Haha, yeah that's a good twit.

And, considering Nike has been "working with" the Feds for a while, perhaps that's why adidas landed on the FBI's radar?

Haha. Probably some truth to it all but if you can't prove it, it all comes across as a vengeful, coke-induced rampage ...

Sounds very R. Bell-ish. Hope he has proof.

FWIW, Lawson was planning to publicly commit to GT less than 48 hours from his announcement before ultimately committing to OR. Just saying.

all the sneaker companies are dirty as hell in terms of NCAA regulations. This is where the changes are needed. Schools shouldn't be paying for kids, but if shoe companies and others want to pay them, let them go ahead, let it be in the open.

Whether the creepy porn lawyer has actual evidence or not Nike has been paying players to go to Oregon for a long time. It is an open "secret" in the business.

Absolutely. And I doubt that is the only school that Nike has payed players to attend.
Also, it is also an open secret that UA looks to send guys to MD. Which is why Turgeon is not as safe there as his record would suggest. There is whispers that UA isn't happy with the results at MD given the help it gives to that school.

I think it's interesting that colleges have "we can fire you for cause" clauses in coaches' contracts. One of the "causes is getting caught violating NCAA rules. The key words here are "getting caught." Do whatever you have to do to win and bring a shining light on the university, but do NOT get caught. The fact that Zion's parents now live in a nice Durham neighborhood is not important as long as Duke does not get caught. Do you think the NCAA will do anything that keeps Duke out of the tournament in March? Or tarnish the image of Coach K?

Of course not.
And lets face it the biggest reason is revenue. Over 90% of the NCAA's revenue comes from college basketball and specifically the TV rights for March Madness. The NCAA has no incentive, heck it has a disincentive, to go after its big name basketball programs. Anything that hurts their brand name basketball programs potentially hurts the NCAA. Anybody remember how quickly Marvin Bagley was able to get eligible at Duke. imagine if he had gone to some no name school.

Fans get all upset over college football and the NCAA, but the NCAA has very little to do with college football - that is basically controlled by the 5 power conferences. NCAA doesn't get a dime from college football. Their only real role in college football is to certify athletes as being eligible.

a number of folks have mentioned that duke parents have nice houses in Durham but is there any evidence to support that? aren't real estate transactions well documented?

If the NCAA actually does anything about this scandal maybe some transfers (from the atlanta area) will become available.

There is nothing wrong with renting a house to the parents of a recruit. But is has to be at prevailing market rates. So, a Duke booster rents a house in a nice neighborhood to the parents of Player-1. They "fail" to pay the agreed upon rent, but the landlord "understands their difficult circumstances" and does not press for payment. The player leaves Duke for a nice job traveling among NBA cities and playing basketball. The parents move into a different neighborhood (well away from Durham) in a nice house house that is paid for by Player-1. Why would the NCAA think there was anything wrong with that scenario???
