There Fans are looking at it this way 2023 12 players transferred out, in 2022 11 players transferred out, and in 2021 8 players transferred out while they only have brought 2 players in using the portal. that is 31 players out by the portal and only 2 to replace them. even with good to great recruiting that is hard to build good depth. Today players won't hang around 2 or 3 years if they don't start.

The guys who transferred out are non contributors. Look at the guys who transferred all but DJ aren’t even starting at their current school

I wouldn’t read a lot into some of the numbers from yesterday.

I think we can say reasonably
  • FSU looks like a contender
  • BC looks like they’re in trouble
  • Duke is getting top 25 votes this week
  • Clemson might stay in the top 25 this week, but that game was a shot across the bow
  • UNC started strong
  • Too early to tell with Louisville and GT
  • Most everyone else ain’t played nobody yet
  • I don’t know if Tennessee is good or UVA is bad, or both

I think you made good conclusions about all of those teams except Louisville and Tech. Personally, I don't think either of them is going to set the world on fire and would not be surprised if Tech ends up with a losing record. There are simply no quick fixes to problems on both lines. Louisville's saving grace is a much easier schedule so they will probably make it to a bowl of some sort. As for Tennessee, yep, they are loaded again and UVA is flat out awful so you got it right both ways.

They have top 10 recruiting classes the last 5 years. Talent is certainly not an issue in Clemson despite what the talking heads say.
Talent is never an issue with Clemson, FSU, Miami, and to a lesser extent UNC. Getting something out of that talent, well, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. IIWII

Yes, because Duke would not have scored like they did. The last two scores were set up by the fumble return and garbage time.

In addition, they missed 2-3 FG, so that's more like 23 points, but who's counting, anyway?
I dunno. I must have been watching a different game than you watched. The dookies laid the wood to Clemson. I don't see Clemson being a top 10 team unless we find out that dook is. Dook out classed Clemson in every facet of the game, and that's despite the talent gap!

Clemson has talent, but this isn't the 2018 Clemson.

Clemson just flat out wasn't prepared for Duke. It was supposed to be a cupcake, but the cupcake punched them in the face. With all that talent, this is on the coaches.
They made a lot of mistakes that helped a well prepared Duke team. Blocked FG's, fumbles on handoffs, interceptions, etc, which kept them from scoring in the red zone. Their QB made a few mistakes which should get cleaned up real fast. Clemson will be a tough out when we play them and not likely to make so many mistakes. It was a great Duke win.

Saw a stat that Clemson has 56 4/5 star players on their Roster. Duke? Two.

Clemson is more talented than they showed, but they are not 2018 Clemson level talented.
OL is solid but didn't look spectacular.
Their WR's don't look like anything special at all.
The defense is still really good, but it doesn't look as dominating as it did a few years ago.

It was also interesting that they basically didn't try to throw the ball deep at all. Whether that is lack of trust in the WR's, lack of trust in the QB, or just offensive strategy I don't know.

I will say one thing though. Based on both teams performance in game 1, I would expect Clemson to run the 2 RB's at us all night long until we showed we could stop it.

They were easily getting pressure from their DL. Consistently in Clemson's backfield. Their DBs close space quickly, and they are a physical team. Duke, and I hate to say it, looks like they can play with any team in the ACC. They also have a top tier NFL prospect at QB. You have those ingredients, and you can play with anyone.

Duke may not win the ACC, but they will be in the conversation.
iirc, we beat Duke handily last year. (Yes, I recall that it went into OT but that was a bit fluky, we were in control throughout that game) When we have more talent and controlled the game LAST YEAR against someone it is hard for me to be overly impressed by them or take them seriously as an ACC contender.

Let's give them 3 or 4 more games before anointing them into that spot.

Won on them missing a short FG.

iirc it was only close because of our "prevent" defense in the 4th quarter which let them back into the game...
We kept them from being a 10 win team last year. Their kicker was a head case last year. He had missed an earlier FG or Xtra point but may have been a different game. I saw Duke play 3 times last year. Temple, UNC and us. They had UNC beat until Maye made a great throw at the pylon with virtually no time left. Fun game to watch as a neutral fan.

I believe he missed a chipshot field goal that would have iced the UNC game the week before our game against them.

We absolutely dominated that Duke game by the eyetest as MWBATL pointed out. It was a coming out party for the defense last year. Riley Leonard had a bad statline because he was on his back every play due to Keion+Co. Crowd was great at that game and they really fed off the energy. I was so jacked after that win that I was about ready to book Charlotte accommodations.
