I get the bad feeling that the only major acquisition the Braves will have made in the offseason is Will Smith:rolleyes: If that's the case the Braves will barely have a winning record and they will not make the Playoffs:grumpy:

I disagree Mike, I think the Will Smith signing is an omen for an active off-season for the Braves ... IMO, I think they are going to spend some $$, hope I'm right.

The Braves announced Tuesday that they’ve re-signed right-hander Chris Martin to a two-year contract. The deal is worth a guaranteed $14MM and will be evenly distributed at $7MM per season, according to the team. Martin is represented by ISE Baseball.

Just four years removed from delivering packages and driving a forklift, Martin made his MLB debut with the Rockies in 2014.

Early in the season the Braves will continue to deploy Melancon as the club’s closer, general manager Alex Anthopoulos suggested following the signing of Smith (link via Matthew Leach of MLB.com). That should lead to a primary setup corps of Smith, Martin, Greene and O’Day, with a number of the Braves’ young arms combining to round out the bullpen mixture. Luke Jackson, Grant Dayton, A.J. Minter, Chad Sobotka and Jacob Webb will be among the names considered by the Atlanta brass, barring additional bullpen acquisitions and or roster moves that send some of those incumbent options elsewhere.

I’m surprised Thomas Burrows(LHP)wasn’t one of the 5 added to the 40-man.
He most likely will be taken in the Rule 5 draft on Dec. 12th. I wouldn’t have protected Pfeifer. Maybe the Braves think they need righties more than lefties?

The Braves announced Tuesday that they’ve selected the contracts of outfielder Cristian Pache, catcher William Contreras, right-hander Jasseel De La Cruz and lefties Tucker Davidsonand Phil Pfeifer.

I agree Jake. Think the Braves are going for it next year!

For what it's worth, and I know it's worth a lot, I saw Scheurholtz and some dudes in Fox Bros in the Battery a week before they signed W. Smith.

I gave him a nod. The terrified look in his eyes told me he got the message.

What was the message? Well, my crazy-eyed gaze clearly suggested that they need to make waves this off season.

You're welcome, Braves fans.

Contreras of the Cubs is the older brother of our AA prospect at Mississippi. Need a trade to acquire him.
Moustakas is a FA.
Zach Wheeler is a FA.

Thanks kg01, I’ve told these guys you’re worth your weight in gold. How are your GT teeth doing?
Please send your bill to Fred J. for getting Mr. Smith. He’s currently out there writing future checks for Strasberg. Won’t mind sending you a commission in helping to keep Atlanta competitive in the Division. I’m sure he believes if the Braves win it and D.C. is the WC again, history will repeat.
