I’ll bet you two cardboard cookies and an old worn out shoe, without the mate...
Nolan Arenado is not happening. It’s fake news.

The Braves won’t trade half the team and farm for a 234 m. $ contract.

"Heh, but them other teams' GM's don't know that." - Arrenado's agent

Smells like the typical ATL franchise m.o. If we have money, use us to bump up other teams' offers.

Ken Rosenthal reporting both Twins & Nationals have offered Donaldson 4 years. Braves & Dodgers remain in mix... but reluctant to go 4 years.

Others reporting IF Nationals don't land Donaldson... they'll work hard with Cubs to trade for Bryant.

Bottom line.... Nationals don't appear to think any satisfactory 3B solution exists in the organization right now.

From MLB Trade Rumors at 11:45 p.m. last night(much of the same):
Third baseman Josh Donaldson, the No. 1 free agent left on the board, continues to contemplate his future. The Nationals, Twins, Dodgers and Braves (with whom he thrived in 2019) look like the front-runners for his services. All things being equal, though, it appears Donaldson would prefer to stay in Atlanta. The “belief” is Donaldson’s camp has promised the Braves he’ll let them make a final offer before he signs anywhere else, David O’Brien of The Athletic reports (subscription link). The problem, as O’Brien notes, is that the Braves may not want to give Donaldson, 34, four guaranteed years. Meanwhile, Washington and Minnesota are reportedly open to doing so.

I believe Boras calls it the mystery team, that beats the final offer. For the record, he is not the agent in this caper. And Atlanta is not a mystery to Rain Bringer.

My take is a little different. It’s been reported that Colorado and Cleveland don’t want to deal those guys, unless they are overwhelmed. I don’t see the Braves G.M. shaking up our roster and farm system together. Now if rumors are true that the Cubs need to deal Bryant, Atlanta could be the favorite. MLB players like Newk., Riley, Inciarte or Camargo, are within reason. Possibly Minor League guys: Waters, Jennista, Weigel, Ynoa. I just can’t see Waters included with Newk. and Riley all together. Chicago has to be more realistic in their asking price or that trade will never happen. But I heard through the SunTrust grapevine we had close talks with them. Not sure if it centered around their catcher and we had to take Hayward or the more recent stuff leaking out from the W.M.?

It’s encouraging that we have fallbacks in place, if those table settings are not followed up by meat and potatoes. Trades can still happen for a SP or 3B or OF or backup SS/3B. Unlike other teams, we have guys in Gwinnett should Atlanta need stopgaps. Still have Ozuna, Hechavarria, Donaldson, Wood out there.

I wouldn't put Drew Waters on that list of possible players to trade:wideyed:

I wouldn’t either, but realism tells me the Cubs will want “ready.” If I could pull back Newk., I’d do it. I don’t like giving up Riley or Camargo(I’d offer him first, for their 3B need)either!

The Donaldson delay, is due to a bidding war opening up between Minnesota and Washington. I’m not sure if they go back to the Braves again, after this round. Hearing he told the agent, to finish before next Wednesday if possible.

Twins, Nats. have gone 4 years on Rain Man. A.A.V. going up, during bidding war.
Cleveland has asked for Gavin Lux in starting the package from the Dodgers, for Lindor.
Per multiple sources: Colorado not willing to eat any of the 35m. A.A.V. on Arenado.

I hope that AA will get off his arse and do something:rolleyes::grumpy::sour::banghead:
He stated right after the meetings, Braves are ahead of schedule on groundwork being laid for future dealings. I guess he needs to make sure J.D. doesn’t accept his 2 year offer with an option year vesting on plate appearances? The A.A.V. is way more than last season. If he had taken our qualifying offer, he would only have 1 year @ 17.8 m.

Braves can come back with 3 or 4 guaranteed years. The longer he waits the more the flood of money will rain on him. Who will rein Rain Man in? Twins driving up a storm.

I hope the Braves can get a top shelf third baseman and if they can't they had better land a hard hitting outfielder:cigar:

There is no way AA would have ever given Ryu that kind of cash for 4 years:rolleyes:
Absolutely correct, Sir!
The man was with the Dodgers for 7 or 8 years, if you count the season he missed entirely. A host of injuries. Last year he gave them 188 innings and that was his best year. Talk about using that final contract year to gain another one....

As I said, IMO the longer the wait the slimmer the chances of resigning Donaldson, I hope the Braves are seriously working on Bryant.
I really would prefer Donaldson, and I don't know anything about Bryant as a clubhouse guy, but he seems to be a good alternative.
I believe a Camargo/Riley platoon would be a weak-link for this team ...
