we will with MJ at the helm. Return of the true Death March.

I'm hoping we alternate QBs a lot this year if they are all so good. Nothing like developing talent for when one gets hurt ........ but I expect you are right that we'll ride MJ. And I look forward to MJ being JN reincarnated. (JN 2.0 ..... better passing hopefully).

And a little bone for those of you worried about the D (you know who you are) :D

Defensively, the Jackets had four takeaways in 19 series, with junior end Anree Saint-Amour forcing a fumble that was recovered junior tackle Kyle Cerge-Henderson, senior cornerback Lance Austin intercepting a pass and sophomore linebacker Tyler Cooksey and freshman defensive lineman Tyler Vernon both recovering unforced fumbles.

There were reportedly 6 TDs and 1 FG in 19 drives. That's 2.37 ppd which is low for our O and too high for good D. So, pretty good scrimmage by that stat.

Unfortunately, I don't know the breakdown of 1st and 2nd team or if it mattered.

Crap. Our offense sucks.

Jeez here we go again. If he was talking about the D people would be freaking about the offense. It's a scrimmage game. You can't draw ANY conclusions from a scrimmage. We don't know how many play, what plays, what the coaches were trying or much of anything except what people put in their articles.
I think he's going based more off of history for our D, and what the D has accomplished under Roof.

I hope we get Taquon some touches this year, even if he doesn't win the job. MJ is a punisher, but I think we may need to spell him a bit more than JT, because he sticks his nose in there far more often than JT. JT got what he could and got down, like Hamilton.
The kid was basically a starter at Aback at one time, and had some great draw runs in garbage time last year. He'd be a great change up to MJ.
MJ may not even be the starter himself. No clear starter yet.

Man, this QB race is going to be intriguing isn't it. Probably the most intriguing QB race I can remember since replacing Joe Ham. It's almost a little precarious to have 4 guys who all could actually win the spot. If you only had 2, or more separation, then you could focus all of the coaching effort a little more around the one or two. It's also precarious because if you've got a younger guy with more upside but who isn't quite ahead of the older guy yet but could be with a half-season under his belt, it's hard to make that call. Do you go with the guy who gives you the best chance to win the first 6 games or the guy who is more of a liability in the first 6 games but ultimately gives you the best chance to win the last 6 games? Whoever you go with tends to become entrenched as the starter. And, we're talking at least 2 years worth or 4 if it's a younger guy. And, the offense is going to definitely look different depending on which guy. Glad we have Coach Johnson who has seen it all.
A friend of mine is fond of reminding me when we talk baseball and our particular favorite team dismissing April losses as "too early in the season to worry" , that "You can lose the pennant in April, too, you know." I might dismiss his concerns but he is a GT man. In short, Johnson will go for one win at a time, beginning with the next game, early or late.

A bit late to the party, but what CPJ said about Jay Jones almost reminds me of Lamar Jackson. "Can't anybody tackle him." Definitely very exciting if he continues to develop. Other comments sound about the same as every spring ball I've heard from CPJ: offense needs to work on ball security, certain players "did some good stuff," and defense is making some plays. We will all get a better idea at the Spring Game.

Except he has never talked about 4 QBs in the same breath as he is now!!!

Our defensive issues have been more about personnel than anything else.
Imo a good coach is someone who will do more with less, they play to their players strengths. There is no way we can say it's strictly personnel. Roof has been here long enough to have his players on the field. If a coach continues to run the same system that he doesn't have the personnel for, you tell me how good that coach is? If it's 3rd and long why not put your faster LB's in the game to drop in coverage? Why keep the slower guys that aren't very good at coverages stay in? Why are our guys in zone but when a guy comes and sits in a pocket right next to their zone, why are they not switching to man on that guy? Why on 2nd and short and 3rd and short are our DB's giving a 7 plus yard cushion? Great coaches will adjust. I hope the D turns around, and Roof is able to help with it if he's going to be around for a while. I really do think Roof is a decent coach I just question his ability to adjust to somethings. We are to talented on D to be in the bottom half of power 5 teams.

I'll take half that bone. 2 turnovers were forced and 2 were unforced. Thanks for the thought. :D
