Good get at position of need. Has battled injuries and has 1 yr to play plus can apply for a medical year. Good experience, has shown he can be effective.
Kids may be testing the market or using the portal to get more from GT. Of course if you are looking we are looking.
I could see a SEC or Big 10 program throw money at Lockett. Maybe Kelly and Lockett will end up at Ole Miss.
It is what it is, really. Not going to worry about it too much.
Expect to see an aggressive system that gets 11 hats to the ball consistently, maintains assignment discipline, and seeks to dictate to offense through physicality and sound fundamental technique.
I expect to see an emphasis on S&C in general, and to see bigger/more jacked DBs. To stop people...
To me looks like:
(1) grad transfers going to P5 programs to use football to get another degree/prep for NFL. I support that.
(2) Guys dropping down to G5 for PT, academics, or whatever else.
Might be a win/win.
Word is that DJ has been impressive at CB for a new guy. I saw Gee playing on STs during the bowl game (KO coverage I think. Not sure what was up with Blackstrain, or if Avery Boyd was hurt. Seems like we saw more of Boyd earlier in the season.
I am sure Mack Brown factored in heavily that Collins is a pretty good recruiter who knows Georgia extremely well, as well as solid work as a DC at Florida and MSU. When he interviewed he apparently had watched a ton of film and was very well prepared/had a vision for how he would improve the...
I'd say mechanics, decision-making, and an apprehension of the finer details of what Faulkner is trying to accomplish.
Clearly King had a breakout season. Dante said in a presser that Haynes works his tail off. I don't think these two things are coincidental. It's exciting that he's already...
These days you kind of have to figure in the multi-year transfers as well. E.g. EJL was a blue chipper and has 4 to play. LB from Louisville has 3 to play. Rutland OL has 2 to play and was a bigtime get.
One thing to add to the discussion: portal guys can develop too, and some come in for multiple years.
Our 1-yr transfer LBs who struggled some were replacing Charlie Thomas and Ace Ealey who himself was a transfer LB that developed a ton while at GT. Makius Scott has really developed. I...
Dudes transfer for a lot of reasons, including academics (change of major or struggling), coaching changes, family needs, homesick, lack of PT/perception they will not (or can not ) develop to get PT here, or coaches choosing not to renew Schollies. Or a combo of any of these. Sometimes the...
Post spring 2023 the pups had 16 Scholly DBs. So if we have 19 once the spring portal closes, yeah, 19 would be a curiously high number.
For now the winter portal is still open. For that matter early signing isn't even here yet. We could lose DBs tomorrow. Or gain more, then lose some in the...
3 very seasoned/experienced leaving (2 graduated, 1 transferred out). 2 experienced portal DBs coming in.
Tr-fr DB don't usually contribute, so shouldn't expect 3 incoming tr-fr coming in to play.
4-6 take the field at a time depending on situation (i.e. nickel, dime). Have to account for...
What I don't understand--irrespective of if the news was leaked--is why these coaches wouldn't finish out on the field for the bowl game.
Maybe Key is giving some in-house off-the-field guys a try out to see how they coach?
