Forgot that, but I'm guessing that he'll leave. No need to hang around for another injury to take him off the NFL radar. But … I can't say what'll happen in the fall. Everybody forgets about Knowles, but he's a real contender, imho.
Like I've said, I'm betting that when Philo take over it will be Jamais Winston, part deux. No need to run all that much, just throw the ball. But we'll see what Buster/.Weinke do if he wins out in spring over Pyron. That is NOT a done deal, btw.
I think Key can lead us to double digit wins much the same way Paul did: we get the right mix for the O and the schedule and luck are on our side. The right mix on O will not, however, mean the right mix for the O system. It will mean that we hit the jackpot with some recruits that we get and...
Navy got killed because of 6 (count 'em six) turnovers. If you turn the ball over like that and don't get killed, something is wrong with the universe. We'll see how ND does against Army where turnovers just don't happen. It'll all come down to how ND does against the QB power plays with Bryson...
I didn't watch the game except for the last quarter. I listened to some at my granddaughter's soccer game. (They lost; my GD says, correctly that many of her teammates don't know where to be or what to do out there.) But I do have some impressions:
• Many here may remember that I said that once...
And delivered this:
Watch Shaw take a monster hit to get the DE out of the way for Dwyer's 88 yard run. Shaw wasn't as good as Nesbitt, but he ran the option as well as Justin Thomas did.
I alway felt the same way. How did he do it? And once he was past the LOS, how did he get so ciute all of a sudden? I always called him what my dad's comrades called the Dauntless SBD dive bomber: "Slow, But Deadly."
Update: I see Robert Lavette is in the same class as Jerry. Good. Lavette had...
I'm glad to see this. It needs to be a trend for players to retire from the game when they get multiple head injuries. Now, it is easier when you made big bucks before, but it still needs to be said: the game is dangerous. There's a reason that the NFL is running ads touting football.
I don't really have any qualms about either Pyron or Philo, provided Tech can run the ball. If Zac is hurt - and he sure didn't look healthy in the 4th against ND - then Philo is the guy. If not, game experience rules. Oh, and, yes, Philo can run (1200 yards, 32 TDs); check his high school...
I watched this game at a pub and I've seldom had a better time. Calvin was stupendous, Reg never had a better game, Choice was great and Guyton was beyond belief. And, yes, we might could use more games like this.
My favorite is also the 2009 win. A close second is the 2018 game when Tobias Oliver came in and smashed VT to Hinckley Diamonds all by himself. Laws, that was fun to watch. Nobody knoew what to expect with Taquan out and all of a sudden Bazinga! I watch the highlights myself occasionally just...
That's why I said it is probably a little late. And it probably is.
Oth, the plays themselves are just about the simplest known to mankind. Direct snap to QB, he reads the blocks - or lack of same - and either runs for the crease or throws. Helps if you have a BB disguised as a QB like Bryson...
I've said it before and I'll say it again: if Philo gets on the field, it'll be very difficult to get him off. The guy is the best passer Tech has had since Mike Kelly. But if Zac is ready, he'd be the choice. Game experience counts. I mean really counts.
Bingo. King makes the run game more dangerous because of his ability to slip through a crease and his speed. That means that on options and draws the D is in a heap of trouble if they come down on the runners. It is very hard to predict what will happen when things get jiggy out there and King...
So would I.
What I would have liked even better is if Buster/Weinke had decided to use some of the Army QB power plays. Zac is so the QB you could use those with. True, Tech doesn't have a real FB - I suppose Maddox was still out - but we could have used one of the TEs or a reserve OL instead...
Well … I see a lot of gripping about the OL here. What fonts need to remember is that OL performance is dependent on performance by the rest of the backfield, especially the QB. Our OL has graded out better then usual because King gets rid of the ball quickly, he is great at running QB draws...
I agree, but with this caveat.
Bobby Dodd was a great coach. Why? Because he had years of sideline experience as a head coach and Key hasn't. Because he inherited a sound program from Alexander and Key did not. Because he normally had the best crew of assistants (Broyles, Graves, Andros (aka...
