Agree bwelbo, it's a sad fact. Consider too the fact that if someone else isn't wearing a mask and is infected and you are, you are in trouble. That is, if you are close to them for a considerable time. Inside=really bad, outside=moderately bad in this circumstance.

Thank you for pointing out the hypocrisy in several post on here that assume it's sooo easy. In the real world, it's very difficult, if not impossible to---isolate in isolation.

So, I guess the IFR is meaningless, huh? And it ain't .2 or .5 for those over 65. And I guess younger people can actually go to work if they are sick (it's still a semi-shutdown of biz).

Well Liberty, there's about 80,000 of those people that would beg to disagree about doing what's required to protect them. That is, if they could.

No MWBATL, those who believe there are real dangers to peoples health AND the economy, by reopening too fast, are not "free" to shelter as long as they like. What's free about sheltering for the older among us vs what the younger among us are bitching and moaning about, which is....sheltering...

Isn't this why we are likely in for a second lockdown (not that many will abide by it). Otoh, it's just peoples parents and grandparents that will die---no big deal.

Hear ya Mountain, but isn't saying it's not the virus, it's the cytokine storm---a lot like saying: it's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop?

So, if the infection rate of Covid is similar to H1N1 in '09-'10 (12 months) at roughly 20%, a .00578 IFR would give us about 380,000 deaths! What number did we fear?

Umm, I dunno MWB, the above does nothing for me in terms of the difficulty in hiding a major lab incident from American and other international scientists who worked in the lab. Something of this magnitude wouldn't have been swept under the proverbial rug in almost any office or organization...

This is from a segment on BBC with the Chinese Ambassador to the UK on April 30th. Everyone can make of it what they wish. Sackur: It's a very important message you're sending. Now, I'm really concerned, since y'all aren't talking me off da ledge. How can it be possible or even probable, that the 130,000 or so deaths isn't way underestimated? Is the area under both curves depicting infections not equal? Didn't the steep quick curve represent what we did during H1N1...
