  1. Georgia Tech at Virginia, Jan 23, 8pm, ACC Network

im looking forward to watching the film of the last 5-10 minutes; my impression from watching live was that UVA played incredible defense those final 10 minutes and that was a large part of our struggles. and UVA has been notorious for doing that to very good offensive teams for several years...

  5. 🤞Clemson at Georgia Tech Jan 20 2021, 7 PM 🤞

when jose was out in first half bc of ankle, kyle filled in and performed well. in the second half, pastner yanked usher after his step-back fade-away airball 3... kyle was solid for a long stretch of "small ball" with 4 guards and moses. normally khalid would get those minutes but he was out...
  6. 🤞Clemson at Georgia Tech Jan 20 2021, 7 PM 🤞

said it in the chat: when devoe has the mindset of a shooting guard, and not a combo-guard trying to create his own shots off the bounce, he is so so so much better. he should model his game on klay thompson (very few dribbles, focus on off-ball movement and catch-and-shoot 3s).
  7. GT Film Study (half-court offense, first 3 ACC games)

I did a film study/breakdown of every GT half-court possession available on the ACCDN "condensed games"(only reviewed the first 3 ACC games, no OOC games). The ACCDN condensed games only show made FGs, so every missed FG and turnover is missing, which limits the analysis, obviously. They edit...
  8. hoop vision 5-out revolution

Agree that with both DDM 4-out and Princeton 5-out, our mediocre 3pt shooting is a detriment to keeping the lane as open as desired. I suspect this (3pt %) is the primary reason Bubba gets far more minutes than Kyle. Agree that it will be very interesting to see how both offenses look in the...
  9. hoop vision 5-out revolution

With ~2 weeks off, starved for game action, some might enjoy this very brief (13 minutes) x/o video on 5-out offenses. Some elements (point series, split action, zoom, DHO, backdoors, etc) can be found in Pastner's "base" offense (Princeton). Sperber calls this the "5-out Revolution". Pastner...

  11. UK

Stating the obvious here... it could be very helpful for GT on Selection Sunday if this trend continues. (Need to handle our own business first, obviously.)
  12. nice Pastner interview on Packer and Durham

A few good nuggets mixed in here (along with some typical interview coach-speak). The face shield discussion at the beginning is also a highlight.
  13. 3pt volume and efficiency over last decade

Found this graphic interesting (and painful). Shows the last decade of 3pt volume and efficiency for top 6 hoop conferences. Best GT year was, not surprisingly, Adam Smith's lone season, when the team shot 35.7% on the season. Only one other season in which we finished above 33% - at 33.1%...
  14. Kentucky Win Post Game

interesting post-game comment from Pastner about winter break practice schedule. more two-a-days to catch up on the live 5v5 practices that were missed in the preseason. i like the sound of this: "It is a great win, but there are a lot of areas we need to improve upon that we need to work on in...
  15. Kentucky Win Post Game

a few thoughts/observations: -turnovers (on both ends) were the key... we gave up so few easy transition buckets to UK because we did not turn it over... on the other end our zone def was very good and UK helped us with plenty of terrible live ball turnovers... those live ball turnovers turned...
  16. The 2019-2020 Senior Class and their extra year

this is a great, thought-provoking post. a few thoughts in response... -agree with your analysis of jose. -the addition of kyle *should* reduce the desperation for jose to return for the bonus year. add deebo (fingers crossed) and the desperation for jose is further reduced. even if kyle has a...
  17. GT +8.5 @ NC State

A lot of positives. A lot of optimism for the season ahead. Saw real strengths right now from every player out there, plus future potential for more growth from all of them too. Saw glimpses of more uptempo play. Saw better shooting. Saw a scrappy man-to-man defense with quick guards...
