  1. 2021 Preseason Thread

In the interim the coaches could be instructed to mention the players name (associated with the question). We hear what the coaches say but most times have no clue who he is talking about. Of course a microphone for the person asking the question would be better.

Glad that was not real. Not enough running plays. Too many passes, especially in short yardage to go. Too many plays with empty backfields. Nothing from Mason or Dante. Good likeness for our weakness in the red zone. Good recognition for our open field tackling.

There are a lot of new faces on the roster, especially the walk-ons. We are finally getting some TE size (Billy Ward is impressive). Depth at LB seems to be a concern but we have filled other positions well. .

My views from a good seat: QBs did not have much time. Many passes were long and mostly incomplete or short for very small gains. Not much success in the mid range. The D covered the RB receivers well. RB runs looked good as usual but you cannot tell much with playing touch. . Yates's series...

I spoke with one of the coaches about Knight. He said Knight has moved back to linebacker as his choice. He looked good in the soft scrimmage.
  7. The Program Training (video)

Completely agree. I'll never forget the positives I got from that experience.
  8. Spring game thoughts

I agree with your post. We have transitioned from a team O to a QB dependent O. Our consistency will be tied to the QB consistency, either good but somewhat inconsistent or really bad inconsistent (like the last two seasons). We should definitely do better than what we have seen in the last two...
  9. Spring game thoughts

The options didn't work because there was no real option as the QB run was blown dead when he was touched so he had to pitch, and pitch early. I would like to see Knight in that roll when you had to put the ballcarrier on the ground.
  10. Spring Training 2021

Unfortunately all 4 QBs look about the same. Good throws/plays followed by bad ones followed by good ones followed by bad ones. Not much consistency and not much separation between the QBs. A lot of the trouble is the inconsistent blocking for the QBs. At this point Knight has higher highs and...
  11. Spring Training 2021

I was at practice today. There were refs participating in practice with one ref on each sideline on the line of scrimmage.. On several occasions the offensive wideouts lined up incorrectly with the WR more than a yard back and aligned evenly with the slot. In each case the ref put his arm up...
  12. Team's Biggest Failure

We can blame officiating, poor O line play, lack of pass rush, poor tackling, injuries, youth and inexperience, excessive penalties, clock management, place kicking, play calling, individual performance, KO coverage and returns, and others but the biggest team failure to me is we have not...
  13. NC State Postgame

Lets try some down and distance and field position awareness in our play calling, especially in the red zone. Something is not right when the O yardage stats are so high and the scoring is so low (not the first time).
  14. NC State Postgame

Got to agree about the rush to score. With the ball first down on the one and plenty of time on the clock there are four chances to score by calling plays not to lose yardage (quick hitting runs right at the D) and base plays with short counts. The D will not stop you in this situation. Only you...
  15. #DUKEvsGT Postgame Discussion

My comment was related to various unnecessary penalties over the course of the season. Also the lack of discipline carries over to more than penalties. Personally I do not like the "simply playing football these days" behavior. Its a "look at me" display which is contrary to team play. We are...
  16. #DUKEvsGT Postgame Discussion

Its all about discipline. The false starts, the mouthing/shoving/ball spinning/excessive showboating/early motion etc penalties are all related to lack of discipline...all on the coaches

Howard is back at RB so were are still quality 3 deep at RB and BSwilling is also available.
  18. #DUKEvsGT Postgame Discussion

Game management is still an adventure. Should have taken the 5 point lead to halftime. When we were up 16 I would like to have us build some depth with the backups at QB. Sims had a great game but took at lot of hits. No need for him to be in the game late. Got to love the team effort. You just...
  19. The Refs

Penalties after the plays are over with are a discipline problem (coaching issue) that has more serious impacts than the instant penalty. Show boat culture and temper tantrums are not good football. I hope the refs put a stop to all of it and against both teams fairly..
  20. Game 8 Media Pittsburgh vs. Georgia Tech #PITTvsGT

I agree that coach P has a lot of football knowledge, maybe overwhelming, but that seems to not help him make simple decisions to move the chains. I have no issues with his first down playcalling, or second down (unless it is 2 or 3 yards to go), but he seems to not have a "move the chains"...
