  1. Roll call for Saturday

Daughter and I will be in 218 cheering for the Jackets and looking to see some improvement. There are lots of opportunities.
  2. The Vote of Confidence is in...

Its not the transition and I highly doubt it is the roster or transfers. Its the lack of teaching, the non discipline, lack or preparation, lack of organization/communication, slow and poor decision making on game day, and too much focus on the wrong things....all coaching issues.
  3. Thread to actually discuss football

The improvement I want to see in the O play calling is to get the high percentage first downs. I am talking about the 2nd and 3 or 3rd and 2. In those situations we need to run the ball. Too often in those situations we have unsuccessfully passed and the result is a 4th down punt (often in 4th...
  4. Sims Injury?

Coach working with Sims in practice another week and and letting him watch Yates from the sidelines this weekend might be a good prescription for his development.
  5. Rewatched the 1st quarter of the NIU game last night and...

Good athletes do not necessarily make good defensive players. You have to find the right ones (C Thomas for example). You have to be tough, naturally aggressive, and have a natural ability to find the ball or ball carrier. You have to want it. Maybe shredding blocks can be taught but good D...
  6. My 2 cents

I thought Yates played a good game and I believe with the play calling more suited to his and the OL skills that he will be even better. He deserves the next start. I did not get that impression from the CDP presser. That would lead to even more fan dissatisfaction and division. Not good.
  7. Which coach on GT staff (outside of CGC) should feel most pressure to improve?

A lot of this confusion is coming from the Thacker scheme to adjust to down and distance, field position, time on clock, and opponents personnel and formations on each down. The result is a constant wave of "package" substitutions. The who goes in and when and for who gets out of control as the...
  8. Maybe all we need is a scrub FCS team as a tune-up game

Maybe a strategy based on our RB talent, our QB situation, our OL strength, and a way to not let KS control the game with so much of the time of possession?
  9. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Agree. Inside the 15 going for a score I do not like to see mass substitutions or hurry ups. This is not the place for a mistake. Keep things simple . Coach should think one play ahead when play calling and not complicate anything unnecessarily. Avoid slow developing plays and plays to lose...
  10. What would it take this year for you to be open to the idea that we're on the right track?

Charlie Thomas is playing his game well. Besides Walker I will give Quez a shout. Major disappointment with the DEs where I had more expectations than with the DTs..
  11. What would it take this year for you to be open to the idea that we're on the right track?

I would like to see our head coach and OC realize that our OL is in developmental stage (at this time) and we are unable to provide any consistent protection for our QB to execute so many pass plays. We need to go to a run heavy attack, using a lot of option with Yates, counters and...
  12. Name a “under the radar player” for this season

I was disappointed with the DL/DE play. No pass rush at all and the much hyped DE's were poor at setting the edge on some runs. We got real good play from the Will LBs. One one drive C Thomas made three straight tackes and Quez came in and made the next two. Swilling and Walker made some big...
  13. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Game prep, decisions in the red zone, fourth down decisions, short situation play calling, run vs pass decisions, clock management, and substitution timing are just obvious coaching issues needing improvement. I also question getting the best players on the field. I agree that coach P is a...
  14. Name a “under the radar player” for this season

Agree on Yates. On running plays, option, and passes when Yates has decent protection he got it done. When OL blocking broke down quickly he bolted and the run for your life offense was spotty. If OL protection improves Yates will be good. If not he needs to improve (and coaching should help) to...
  15. ROLL CALL vs N ILL

I will be in 218 with brother and son-in-law cheering for the Jackets
  16. Article Season Opener Preview: The Northern Illinois Huskies

I agree. He seems to have touched all the right bases in preparation and seems to have done his homework on our players and coaches. I was impressed that he knows CGC special team history which mostly comes from Temple (certainly would not have to worry about our ST play from the past two...
  17. Will Georgia Tech Be The Most Improved Team in ACC This Year?

Good list to get started but I would add: -Too many pre and post snap penalties -inability to finish drives in the red zone -Ds inability to stop 3rd and long -too many O drives stopped with 4th and 12 and a punt especially after having 2nd and short -negative loopsided time of possession -5...
  18. O Line Starters

Where does Camp and Morgan stack in the overall OL picture, along with Smith and Maye?
