When does Pastner feel heat

I made the original comment that anyone who claims to be a good shooter should be hitting 80% from the free throw line. Otherwise, they are not a good shooter. I stand by that.
I'm thinking of an NBA Legend who ranks 3rd all-time in FG percentage (.582) while shooting only 62% from the line.

His name? Shaquille O'Neal.

I think the seat is indeed hot. He has 3 excellent sophomores he recruited last year. ( Coleman, Kelly, and Moore) note: new recruiting assistant. However, without an excellent post player, he will not survive next year. FR or Portal, he needs a quality big. If not, I believe he is gone.

Time for an extension after the Miami win? (Just trolling)

Seriously guys, I think Pastner probably puts more pressure on himself than anyone else. So I think he has always done his best.

Is it good enough? Ask Miami.

BTW, I don't know **** about basketball but like reading the technical stuff people post. Thank you.
That win was just a really well played game down the stretch to preserve a win. However other ACC teams will not overlook us now. I just hope we can keep this level of play going. Pastner may have found his core team now. Also Duke got blown out by NCSU. Tough to follow a legend for Scheyer and Keatts has basically rebuilt his team this year.

One thing about Pastner teams is they tend to get better as the season progresses. Let’s see how things shake out over the next two months. This team basically started over this year and is learning how to play together. Yes there are issues (some big ones), but I don’t think they couldn’t be solved with a transfer here or there or one big time recruit if this team were to gel by year end.

He ain’t going anywhere this year either way, so next year is where things would heat up.

Having put up with Hall not advancing in the last 11 regionals despite many top 10 recruiting classes, I can say that I appreciate teams which perform better than their ranked talent.

Pastner somehow gets things going later in the season. Usually too late to make the NCAAs, but improvement rather than a swan song.

Either way, I'll support both.

We've looked better recently so hopefully he can keep building on it. I don't believe in firing a coach just to fire a coach especially at the collegiate level.

I should graph this. Last season was a missed year and a missed opportunity. Unless some spark happens, this year is the same. Gregory left a hole, but Pastner hasn’t dug out of it.

That doesn’t mean that there aren’t structural problems underneath—there are.

Here’s Pastner’s HC coaching record overall. We haven’t made the AP top 25 since Hewitt.

If he’s losing because of what Tech is doing, we have to fix that. If he’s losing because of us and what he’s doing, then we have to fix our problems and shake up the coaching staff.

I think just about anyone can look at our record, look at 1 NCAA bid in 20 years (or just one in Pastner’s 7), and say that something needs fixing. I don’t think many people disagree with that. However, many of us have watched losing teams in college and pro leagues cycle through coaches and never improve, and so we have our doubts about firing a coach and thinking things will improve.

Back to the title, in some ways we’ve given Pastner a chance—we’ve given him 7 seasons. In some ways, we’re missing the infrastructure to give him a chance—how much more institutional support do we have compared to Georgia State down the street?

Part of a coach’s job - especially at the ACC level - is to be able to whip the fan base to get the minimum level of resource he needs to be successful. It isn’t a passive activity where he simply sits in his office and deals only with players. To be clear I don’t expect a coach to raise $50 M to fully rebuild McTit, but if he needs $250K or $500 K for NIL he should have the juice in the fan base to whip that up. Unless he has already been fired by the fan base.

I think his future will be decided by whether he can get , either from HS or portal, a really good post player, before next season. AND abandon the failed Princeton offense. These are his 2 biggest faults. There are some good young players on the roster, and those 2 actions could save his job. Otherwise he's gone.

Interesting. i just had a conversation with a longtime BB in my area (HS level). Over a long career has won 2 state championships. But has also had some losing seasons along the way. Content to coach the kids who show up and enjoys doing so, come what may. This coach is now getting pressure to "recruit" area kids to the school where this person works. Keep in mind this IS HS basketball. This coach is thinking of hanging it up bc of this. To your point, some coaches only like coaching AND despise the peripheral stuff. I think our former FB coach (the one who actually was a good coach and immediately prior to TFG) had an element of this about him as well.

Disclaimer: I am NOT trying to make this a FB conversation so can we nip that in the bud please?
