I voted "Other" and thought, "what would it take for me to say I am all in or have given up hope?"

Three days ago I would have answered "all in" and not blinked an eye. I am still not close to giving up hope, but the trend line for me could change if we end up 1-11 or 2-10. It certainly will if we go winless.

As for what would it take for me to return to "all in?" Losing to uga Clemson and ND, but winning the rest would be what I might call unbelievably good at this point. That's a stretch, so maybe 5-6 wins would be enough for me to remain on the island voluntarily. If we get a couple of 60-70 point losses I might retract this entire post. Those truly ugly games have to be a distant memory. Not to say this most recent game isn't in that category as well.

Ehhh....c'mon now. Lots of folks were repeating the manta of "biggest rebuild in history" as to the reason to give him a big or at least lengthy contract. If CGC wants to keep his job he might want to use a portion of his salary to hire a new offensive coordinator.

Appreciate all who replied to the targeted follow-up question. Like many of the "nothing he can do" crew, I'm not a fan of every marketing choice but I get it.

I will say that wins this year will convince me we're on track despite. And I'm not even sure what that bar is. Agree with @RonJohn's point, the prerequisite to wins is preparedness, which I pontificated on yesterday. We need to look competent regardless of results.

Agree with @4shotB on "something unquantifiable". A word that comes to mind is "feel". Seems we have a lack thereof. You know it when you see it.

And also when you don’t. That’s where a lot of us have been for a long time

Unfortunately we can only selection one option in the poll.

Getting to X (6) win for sure,
Dumping a coordinator seems appropriate,
Getting a top# recruiting class won't happen until December/February... and would be only a part of the proverbial pie,
And of course, wait and see...
So many things, so I am selecting "other".
I debated whether to go with the multi-choice poll for this reason. Ultimately settled on single choice to get to the heart of "what's most important" to folks. Have a little buyer's remorse with the decision, still.

I understand. Appreciate your input. At some level it sounds like you and others believe there are changes, however unlikely, that would resonate. I struggled with how to word the question for this reason.

Yeah, I would say that as united as Tech fans are in their displeasure they would be as equally united in their support if something undeniable and unequivocal changes for the better. Can’t define specifically what that might be but think we would all recognize it if it happened. Any progress that is the least bit ambiguous at this point isn’t going to change any minds.

You’re right it’s not nothing. There’s plenty of scenarios, some which involve him only manufacturing 3 wins.

How long does he keep playing the starters before he yanks them and let those with promise have a shot?
What does he do with the staff? Does he fire them, re-direct them, etc?
Can we manage to get organized, look like we’ve practiced?
Kick a damn FG for heaven’s sake.
Can he just tell it like it is without thinking he’s going to offend certain players?

Right now EVERYONE who has any peripheral interest in GT is using words we don’t like about our program. It’s hard to imagine a turnaround but it should have started today, otherwise we have our answer.

Going into the year i would've been very happy with 6 wins and I'd still be happy with that, just a lot less confident that we can do that. Now that we've lost one of the easier games on the schedule our road to 6 wins will now include 4 wins over tougher conference opponents and if we can go out and beat Pitt, BC, UVA, Miami/UNC then yeah, I would say there is some progress. But these basic errors in game and personnel management are BS and have nothing to do with transitioning from the triple. Very concerning. After the debacle this weekend is hard to see the GT team that beat FSU, Duke, and Louisville last year. Looks like regression.

Having said that, the fact the team was able to come back from being down 0-14 and go on a 21-0 run behind Yates, is somewhat encouraging. Still doesn't excuse being down 14 in the first place or letting them march down the field at the end to win though.

They do say you see the most improvement between weeks 1 and 2 so here's to hoping. But the coaching issues seem unlikely to be fixed in year 5 of CGC being a head coach

After watching the game in person and watching a recording I have the following comments:
1- The coaching staff worked on reducing penalties and maintaining discipline during the off season.. We had only two penalties for ten yards. it appears that the staff accomplished what they
needed to.
2- The defense did well until NI went to the quicker no huddle offense. It did not seem as if our coaching staff had prepared our players for that. It also appeared that the D.C. was late getting
the play called.
3- Clock and timeout management was very poor. That had a great deal to do with our inability to hold the seven point lead.
4- Play selection and the choice of players used was subpar during the last 4 minutes.

It appears to me that we have the athletes to compete. CGC has done a good job there. For the most part I think our players played hard. The statistics prove that our offense can be productive and could have been much better if Sims had played better. To me the solution is better coaching during the game, beginning with CGC. He indicated that in his response about the game. He can get better. He has only four years experience as a head coach and it shows. He must get better or get more help from his coordinators. A change in staff may be in order after this year and hopefully CGC has the resolve to do what is necessary. I would say both coordinators should be under review the balance of the season. I am still pulling for this team and coaching staff, but I am inclined to believe some changes are going to be called for.

One last thought, and that is sometimes a hug might not be what a football player needs. Sometimes they need an attitude adjustment.

I haven't voted because I don't know how to honestly answer. At the moment I feel as if there is no chance of turning things around. I can give some insights as to what kinds of things it would take for me to not feel as if there is zero chance:

  • Being able to substitute players at least as effectively as a high school team.
  • Having the defensive play call to the players before the ball is snapped.
  • Having the offensive play call in to the huddled offense before the play clock reaches 10 seconds.
  • Discussing the clock with players on the sidelines before the offense goes in so they have it in mind not to run out of bounds when we need the clock running, or stay in bounds when we need the clock stopped.
If the team starts to look like they actually practice, and the coaches stop looking like they don't have a clue what they are doing, then I will start thinking about how many wins or what types of wins will bring me to have faith in the coaches. If we don't do that, I don't think winning every game would help very much. (and if we don't do that, we wouldn't have a chance of winning every game anyway.)
You forgot to add:
  • Being able in inbound the basketball from your own baseline. (Whoops, wrong coach…)
Seriously though—I look at the ineptitude of our FB team at the basic, should-be-routine operational tasks that you’ve listed, and I can’t help but think of P*** H*****’s teams. (How long have we been recovering from the damage he did to our BB program?)

I’ve hesitated until now to answer the poll because none of the options listed really fit, and I wasn’t sure how to characterize my “other”. But @RonJohn pegged it: I’ll start to believe we are on the right track when I see the team coming out onto the field looking like they can execute all the standard pre-snap tasks that should be a GIVEN for a P5 team.

Eye test instead of win count.,.for one more season. Our guys haven’t looked prepared for the game many times during CGC’s tenure. I’m not sure if that’s true but it’s the way it looks sometimes. Maybe CGC’s game time coaching is poor and it makes the players look unprepared. Kinda reminds me of the 2015 season but that was due to a bunch of newbies filling in for all of our injuries.

I voted other. I still want to see some sort of significant improvement.

Fewer penalties and great kickoffs are the only improvements over last year. My hope is that there are real in game improvements that lead to wins. Not being greedy, just give me something. Maybe I should have voted on an upset win.

Look like you are the better team on the field.

Just win. That is the category which I would vote.

We had 429 yards and 21 points. Is that the OCs fault or the head coach? Genuinely asking because I don’t know the answer
Both. I think most modern coordinators, not just us, try to get too cute. Take what the other team will give you and have a few plays that the kids can run in their sleep.

Simple question. What would the AD do if this was any of the top 50 schools in the country?
I think 90% would have not even let him have a press conference after the game before showing him the ropes. But yet we want to compete with the best?
