If there were 30 “Tech Men” on the BoR, Peterson would not try to get them to do one thing to “help” our football team. He would try to get exceptions for him to hire more people that steal from the taxpayers.

If there were 40 more “Tech Men” on the BoR, CPJ would not change a single thing he is doing in our football program now. He would not recruit better because the better kids STILL would not want to play in this system and he would still have Sewak, and he would still recruit guys that better programs do not want, and his recruiting success would still be signing kids that had committed to DII or non P5 schools.
I really don't understand the animus towards Peterson. Could he do more? Hell if I know, but he's at every Tech game, along with his wife, and in appearances I have attended, he always speaks of athletics in one form or another.

There are two classes of college football, and like it or not , the DWAGS have moved into the upper class - with Clemson, Bama , Ohio State and a few others. With the hiring of Smart and tremendous upgrade in recruiting they are poised to be dominant over us for YEARS , if not DECADES. We keep beating ourselves up over losing to the DWAGs as if that is our measuring stick. We are not even in the same universe as them anymore, IMO. Do I like it that way ? No , I hate it like H__L ! But that is college football today.
It is ALL BUSINESS, TV Exposure , uniform contracts , academic waivers , fundraising , full stadiums and PROFITABILITY. Academics have become diluted in the name of furthering the school brand. We , like some others , are trying to compete , with one hand tied behind our back. We want to be highly competitive with the Dwags AND maintain our high academic standards at the same time. That will NEVER happen in today's college game, IMO.
But , we should be MORE consistently successful in the ACC than we currently are. Our goal should be to go to the ACCCG EVERY year, and even beat Clemson once in a while. 9 wins a year at a minimum , bowl game very year , better bowl games every other year.

I think at least part of it is that none of the 4 coaches before Johnson had to deal with the same academic requirements that Johnson does. At a school like yours, that matters.

I think it's time you were honest with yourselves: GT isn't willing to do what it takes to compete with a school like UGA. Not financially, not academically, not structurally, it's just not.

UGA is going to do what it takes to be a national power in football. That's the end of that sentence. Whatever it takes, UGA is going to do that, and GT simply is not. I genuinely believe it doesn't matter if you have Paul Johnson, or Bronco Mendenhall, or Kirby Smart, or some schlub off the streets. GT simply doesn't care as much about football as UGA does, and it likely never will.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it's the truth, and that lack of support from the university is going to show up on the field way more times than it's not.

With all due respect, your view just doesn’t matter one iota to me. We are your second team. The only reason you follow us is because you like our coach and his offense so I would expect this post from you.

I believe the academic challenges are overblown. It doesn’t mean I think them nonexistent, but we have always faced unique challenges in that regard. Here is my point. The program is on downward turn The last 4 years don’t match where we were over the previous quarter of a century. I have no clue why we wave the white flag without trying to do something different . If we go through multiple coaches and can’t do any better maybe your argument is correct. But to just surrender without trying is not something I support.

WHAT??? Only Fulcher and Rodgers were GT men.

Dodd offered The University of Tennessee coach and he accepted. Tech men said we had to hire a guy with Tech connections (Tech Man like) so we got Carson. But not totally a TM, you are correct.

Bill Lewis hired due to his being “familiar with GT, and having coached here before”. Again TM like, but you are Technically correct.

Sorry to say curry was/is a Tech Man.

Building attendance and

I am not throwing my hands up but just pointing out that with the lack of attendance/atmosphere/ dollars and all of the big time programs that have these things I don't have much of a solution. If there were one we would see other schools with similar resources getting it done. This year the playoff teams in the hunt are Alabama, UGA, Clemson,Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. No Cinderella stories.

Yeah, I’m not concerned with playoffs. I’m concerned with GT. I don’t think GT is maximizing its potential.

Which makes them mediocre fans.

No, donating to a team is like an investment, if you think you would get a bad return on investment you will not have invest. The GTAA has made some horrible decisions in the last 25 years or so which in turn has lead to donors being weary to donate. Mediocre fans are the ones who are happy with the status quo because they have suck low esteem for the team that they cannot believe they can do better. Like I said in a previous post, Throwing money at the program will be like putting a small bandage on a massive wound.

Steve Spurrier should have been hired instead of Bill Curry. Steve Spurrier wanted the job badly and GT would have had him for 10 years until Florida would have come calling in December 1989.

GT just got their asses handed to them and you think going 8&5 against mediocre teams ain’t bad ? What has happened to GT fans being ok with mediocrity?

What he said was that we are not in a "massive hole". And so we aren't.

The question is not whether some are satisfied with mediocrity and some aren't, because the fact is that nobody is. The question is what do we do about it.

Some want a change, and see change, any change, preferable to staying the course. Others see value in continuity, and see that improvements made recently in recruiting and defensive coaching will pay off in the future if we are patient. I'm in the latter camp. I see good people coming up and I am willing to wait. "Good things come to those who wait". Pushing the panic button prematurely might send us into the massive hole that some erroneously think we are in now.

So if nobody "throws money," how the hell do you expect any change?

The animus apparently is that he is not willing to sacrifice academics for sports success to the degree some posters want.

I agree with everything you said so if this is what college football has become then I say they should split it up with 2divisions the cheaters in one and the schools that want to still play college football in the other . Bama &cu & ugag plus a couple dozen more are nothing but semi pro teams.

I hate to talk about the game, but I’m interested in seeing how Malachi Carter develops. Seemed to have a step on that CB on the bomb thrown his way. It would be nice to have a true deep threat again. Camp handles things down low, Carter over the top?

When recruiting against CPJ, you do not have to pay a penny to anyone.

It will be the same with new unis, new locker room, new weight room, new AI2020 because CPJ cares about 2 things - his O & Sewak.

Talented kids we can get will not sign with CPJ running this system.
He adds to, doesn’t help, the issues we have to deal with as is.

People that think losing to puke 4 of the last 5 times has a single thing to do with academics are out of whatever brains they once had.

When people make these kind of all encompassing comments, it makes them look not very intelligent. Nothing is black and white. You are basically saying every member of the current team does not have any talent. See how that makes your comments come across as someone who is not capable have having an intelligent conversation with. It says, this poster is not worth listening to as he has nothing of value to contribute.

James Graham is loaded with talent. Among many others on this team.

So, understand that I'm a UVa fan here, so I come with a little different perspective, but:

What makes you people think you are entitled to anything more than slam average? Is there something special in the GT water where logic and basics go out the water and everybody is above average in everything?

If you took a school not named Georgia Tech, and gave it the exact same situation as Georgia Tech, how good would you EXPECT them to be?

Pros: Cool City, Fertile Recruiting Area, Storied History (several generations ago).
Cons: Cruddy Academic situation, unattractive majors, CLEAR 2nd level team in your own state, reputation as a boring/lame place to go to school, marginal facilities, marginal salary for coaching and recruiting

Essentially, you're Vanderbilt, or you're UVa.

So why do you believe that you're not? Why do you believe that "9 wins a year at a minimum" is a reasonable thing to say?

I PUT FORTH: you have been spoiled rotten with good coaches, going back to Bobby Ross. This is not because of anything your school particularly has to offer. You have just made a series of good hires. This has led you to believe that there is something at GT that there is not, and my strong belief is that with one crappy hire, you could EASILY be where UVA or Vanderbilt has been for the last 20 years.

You act like finishing .500 in the ACC is some given, and that going to a bowl is no accomplishment. I believe you are wrong, and I almost wish you would fire Johnson, and hire some scrub, just so you could see how unspecial your program really is.

You hear people talk about a businesses "fundamentals", and how sometimes you can outperform fundamentals, but usually not. GT's fundamentals are nothing special, and you should be GRATEFUL to be outperforming them for as long as you have.
